CAMS
« on: October 01, 2009, 03:48:01 PM »

I did a little research in the parts book today, looking up some numbers.

FWIW:
The numbers for the cams on the 2010 96", 103" and Police bikes are all the same: 24608-07A, 25590-07A
The heads are the same part # on the 96, 103 FLHTK and the cop bikes, also. Looks like the same cams from 2007-present.

Just a little trivia for those who also don't have a life, and are not riding today!

Probably go with 255 cams or Andrews 54's in the near future. That will mean another V-Tune session!
Right now just trying to get the tune close to my '09. It runs perfect, but, I like to customize my warm up and idle maps. Taking a month long trip this month, we'll see how it runs.

Have put on about 2000 mile on my ULTRA Limited, found engine runs approx. 50 - 60 degrees hotter than my built 2004 SE 103" in 90 degree f temp and last week when it was really hot I could start to hear pinging (detonation) phone HD and the say only way to clean it up was to hook it up to a SEST aI told them I was not going to pay over $700.00 to get the engine running properly and if I ruin the engine due to heat issues they would be replacing.

Here is my plan for now, and to try and maintain HD Warranty, maybe.

SE255 Cams,
Quick Install Pushrods
Heads Cleaned Up, may change the 1.805" intake and the 1.565 exhaust valves
.30 Cometic Head Gasket
SE Ventilator A/C
SEST
2010 Header, cat removal by Fullsac
Supertrapp Fatshots Dual Exhaust

Will be doing the mods within the month, taking the bike down to Phoenix soon, supposed to get 10 centimeters of snow next couple of days.

You should NOT hear any pinging, mine did not stock, and does not now modified. My EITMS would engage all the time prior to the TTS, now it never comes on.
Oil temps range up to 260 on very hot days: ok, but, on the high end, IMO.

Our local dealer will not honor the warranty on 255 cams, book says "For race application only". He will ok it if cams were installed prior to customer delivery.
Don't know why, really, but, I'm sure it must be due to "issues" in the past with the mother ship. My dealer in Yuma says much the same.
The rest of your mods looks good, I'm sure you will be happy with the results.
Look for about 100 lbs TQ, depending on the dyno.

I will probably do some of these same mods when I return from another long trip, and, finish my current project!!!

Again, depending on the dealer.....SEST here is ok, TTS is a gray area (but we can always remove it! Leaves no trace! ) LOL

WTH you using them crappy EPA 110 cams for? Way better cam selections out there with all this work you're doing! :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

Hoist,

Other choice is Andrew 54H Cams, what is your thoughts on those, I think they are better in the plus 4500 rpm range?

I haven't seen it used. Just dyno sheets here. I'm not impressed with that either. Not much better curve than the 255's! Take a look at the S&S 570 with some mild headwork, and add just a lil CR, like maybe up to 9.6-9.8, 58mm TB and a Quiet FatCat! I think you'll be happy with that. I believe they're available in Hydro Chain Drive now. ;)
