SklyWag & FxyTail Southwest Ride
« on: October 02, 2009, 12:39:04 PM »

Thought we should get this post started since we are a day out now.
As you know the CVO is in the shop without a motor, good news is parts are ordered to rebuild the motor.
We did Street Vibrations on the Sportster, well I did, Trudy rode with a friend on his ULtra for a comfy seat.

So we flew to Vegas on 10-1, as Trudy has bought a MC.  Terri & Melanie have been inspirational to her & she is going to work towards riding again.

We picked up the MC yesterday, no Pic’s yet, those will come today.  Although the mod’s started in the sellers garage yesterday.  Well, we had to get it ready for the trip & our style.

The trip is Las Vegas, Bryce Canyon, Page AZ, S rim Grand Canyon, Williams AZ, Sedona, Jerome, Rt66, Oatman, Laughlin, Amrogosa (Death Valley), Lee Vining (Bodie) & home with other stops on the way.  We will be home 10-11-09.

So the MC is a Harley…..  More to come tonight with pic’s.

Although there is a story & some pic’s already.  I’m not sure but Trudy may be thinking about going back to a previous career once she gets riding again, she was pretty jazzed about this, look at the smile on her face.

Of course I got to have the fun of riding around the block.  No helmet, who was going to stop me?

Bill and Trudy, congratulations! Will you be keeping the lights and siren on so you can lead us on high speed runs through the Sierras?  If not, Melanie loves blue and I've always wanted a siren, hint hint (I know, legalities)  ;D Have a fun a safe trip, keep us posted. Roger

Ok, 1st few posts have been filled in with a few pic's.

No, they made her take off the lights & siren, but she is already spending money and I am making mods on the road.  Screaming Eagle adjustable rear floor board brackets, and a thermometer & clock.  And of course our left handle bar collection of GPS, Sirius, & SPOT.  Wired in the heated controllers for the jacket liners, Trudy used hers tonight the last 50 miles to Tropic, it had dropped to 50 degrees at 7500'.

This morning we left Vegas about 9:30am, headed out for the Valley of Fire State Park.  Awesome colors of the rocks & ground.  From there we headed for Zion NP, we have been to Zion before so we only rode through, took a bunch of pic's and caught a couple of sheep up on the hillside.

Then on to Bryce Canyon, just buzzed through on the main road and rolled in to Tropic just at dark.  Grabbed some junk food at he local marked & crashed in the room.  Tomorrow we will go see all of Bryce NP & Kodacrome Basin.

As my final comment of the day, my life has been ruined, I have put 500 miles on the 09.  I now agree with all of you that have said don't ride it if you aren't ready to buy it.  What a difference in handling from our 06 CVO.  Now power, that's a different story.  The 96 does run well and Trudy tells me she can almost hear the exhaust.  It is all stock.....  That will change very soon.

Nice bike and Terrie would say a great color.  :huepfenlol2:  It is. :2vrolijk_21:

Looks like you two are going to have a great week.  We look forward to the pics.

So does that mean that you're trading the 06 in on an 09 or 10 Bill? :nixweiss:

OK, you can't just start a thread like this and then disappear for days.  Makes the rest of us start wondering and worrying.  Where are you Bill....Trudy?  Hope all is O.K.

Thanks for the call JC!

We are good!  We are in Williams AZ @ the Red Garter B&B.  Yesterday we both woke up with colds in Page AZ.  Quick trip to Wallymart for Zicam and off we went.  We were in slow motion all day & I went to sleep at 7:30pm last night.

Hopefull we will have Internet tonight in Jerome, AZ & I will post some pics.

Bike runs fine.  The new frame & tires are great for handling.  Although I do have the heel shifter tie bwrapped on so it doesn't fall off again.  Crappy stock HD parts, more mods.....  Heading to HD this morning when we leave here & see if they can warranty it quickly for us.

Till Later...

Well tonight we are in laughlin, NV.  We aborted the vacation today.  We are just too sick to care.  Do you know what it is like to ride in the rain, needing to blow you nose every 2 or 3 minutes, that was yesterday.  Today, no rain but the same nose & both of us living on 5 hr energy drinks, Asprin, Zicam and kleenex.  You can track our route today, look for the kleenex trail :nixweiss:

We were on Rt 66 out of Ash Fork today headed for Oatman, gave it up coming into Kingman, put Laughlin = fasted route in the GPS and hit the interstate.  We cancelled the rest of our reservations for Death Valley & rerouted to Hyw40 to Hwy 395 for tomorrow,  Lone Pine Friday night home on Saturday.

We have been taking pictures & will post when we get home as
