football aircleaner cover
« on: October 02, 2009, 07:05:44 PM »

curious if the football shaped aircleaner cover is a hinderance to airflow.. am refering to the one on the 2010 Ultra Limited. also wondering if there is a high flow SE fitler that works under that cover??
Thanks,

The football cover is not the problem, it's the restrictive back plate.  You need to remove that and put the Screamin Eagle back plate on (the chrome one if you have OCD) and then either the Screamin Eagle Air Filter. (Stage 1 upgrade).  That will open up the air cleaner just fine.  This is what most SEUC owners, including myself, have done.   :2vrolijk_21:

OCD = Obsessive Chrome Disorder. Most men have it because we have an extra Chrome a sone. Can also be known as Chromoholic, Chromophobic, or Chromosexual.

Save your money on the HD stage 1 AC kit and get the Arlen Ness Big Sucker. It comes with a chrome back plate and the filter is a washable oil type (like the K&N). The HD element is a POS type paper element that deteriorates in short time

Yes

Yes, again, but there are better flowing air filters on the market. If you just want to keep the stock looking cover, go with the SE stage 1 setup.
We have found 2 more HP without that "football" cover and filter on the dyno.
Better choices for more airflow would be Arlen Ness, Big Sucker Ventilator, etc.
Depends what looks good to you!

And if ya want the best flow with your K&N type filter, DON'T OIL IT! ;)

Personally I like the Ventilator. It has good flow, looks good, and matches our bikes. Add the SE backing plate, in chrome of course, and good to go in my book.

Using the HD stage 1 kit or the big sucker will not move your cover outward. The stage 1 setup consists of the backplate, hardware and filter.
