Inner cam bearing removal
« on: October 03, 2009, 01:31:56 PM »

Is it possible to remove the stock inner cam bearings (to replace with B148, of course) on an 03 TC88 without a bearing puller, or any special tool?

Seen it done but would not risk it. Cases are aluminum and can get screwed up. Get the Georges or Jims tools to install and pull them.

I was hoping you wouldn't say that....  :)   Not so easy to get the tools here in rural Scotland!

Unlikely - there'd only be the HD Dealer (60 miles away) and they aren't going to rent theirs out, I think.  I need to get a look at a photo of removal tool if they are essential, to see exactly how they work.....

The problem with not using the correct tool is that you most likely will drop the rollers into the crankcase - and that will ruin your day.

Link.    http://harleytechtalk.org/htt/index.php/topic,47.20.html

Sean had mentioned before having an interest in cam tools.  That's a cheaper alternative and is a nice efficient approach.  Going to send him a PM with your link so he'll see it for sure.
