My favorite plane of all...nothing sounds like it!  Kinda like Harleys, you can recognize them with your eyes closed.

There is one somewhere near where I live, I see it several times during the summer months. What a beautiful sight & sound [smiley=2vrolijk_20.gif]

If you want to get upclose to flying P51's theres nothing like EAA in oshkosh.

Awesome pics. Almost makes you wonder that given equal firepower, could a P-51 take on a modern fighter.

There is a historic war bird airshow making the rounds every year. I live close enough to a private airport big enough to hold jets and not to far from McGuire Air Force Base. Several times during the shows the old war birds pass directly over my house heading in or out of the airport. What a sight and sound for those of us brought up in the jet age.

Slightly off topic, but in the same category.

Some time ago I spent the 4th of July in the middle of the Hudson River for the Tall Ship parade.
Aside from some really neat flybys (B1 and Stealth bombers included) the neatest flyby was the the USCG's HC-130 Hercules, HU-25 Falconjet, HH-60 Jayhawk and the HH-65 Dolphin, all flying in a diamond formation!
