Praying for a new engine!
« on: October 04, 2009, 07:51:35 PM »

Got word from my dealer that my rear exhaust lefter exploded and damaged the crank, cams, cam support, right case and oil pump.  Had already put in a claim for the powder coating falling off.  Just should get a new one.
I guess the inside is very scarred up.   :'(

Cheaper for a new engine then to question a rebuild.... JMO

Play the safety angle with your dealer... If they fixed the engine rather than replace same and you are going down the highway at 70 when the engine seizes and down you go.  HD will have some major liability.  Why not avoid that potential risk and give you a new engine.  Do it in writing to the service manager with a copy to the regional service person at HD

18500 miles.

When my engine failed, 32,000 roughly miles, it was determined to have it rebuilt - I was on the extended warranty by then

I had the good fortune of some members who knew some great wrenches in the HD system and they directed me to one man, in one dealership within a reasonable distance of my home to have the rebuild done.  I'm more than happy now, but a new engine was what I had wanted originally as well.

Good luck to you.
