I need more power and to keep my warrantly in tact
« on: October 07, 2009, 10:35:53 PM »

I have a 2009 Springer CVO.  Love the bike, looks great, runs well, but would like more of a kick in the ass.  I have the SERT and Vance & Hines pipes.  I bought a 5 year warranty and don't want to nullify it.  Are there other cams I can put in and still keep my warranty coverage?  Also, has anyone had good experiences with 2 into 1 pipes?  Do they sound good?

Technically, you already nullified your engine warranty.  ???. Best recommendation; have your dealer do whatever work you want, make sure they tell you they'll back what they recomend/do. A 2:1 exhaust will get you best performance. D&D FatCat, Vance and Hines, Supper Trap Tuneable Megas are good choices. FatCats are a little loud, the Supper Traps can be tuned almost factory quite. Pretty much personal preference.  :nixweiss:

I just traded a 103 Springer with mild engine mods. Sportygordy's post matches my experience exactly. If the dealership chooses to, they can work with you and protect you through warranty concerns.

Two into on is a plus for performance, but it took me three tries to find a sound that worked for me - D&D Fat Katz and V-H ProPipes were way too loud for me, but the Super Trapp was much much quieter. My seat of the pants dyno couldn't discern much difference between them. Also the D&D caused a big reduction in lean angle for right turns - that was not a problem with the others.

There are numerous threads on various cams here, but most of them will better than your stock cam. The search engine will help you. What's "best" depends on other engine mods and your riding style/preference. I used a SE 211, good torque at midrange (3500 rpm)  and higher. Any cam replacement will technically void your warranty, but the comments above still apply.

I always keep every one of my stock parts..Last year the MoCo voided my warrany and I had to put her back to stock to get it re-instated....could not afford to keep her on the road as she was a pure lemon....Finally sold her with a big loss....but I was tired of being broke down every 2 weeks...

After the factory 2 year warranty is over with you can do what you want....The extendid warrany that you purchased is not through HD.....You can also start taking it to any certified HD mechanic after the 2 year, it does not have to be a dealership anymore....A lot of small shops will do the extendid warranty work just ask around

Hello Nudels
I'm with you on keeping "ALL" the stock parts just in case, to avoid warranty issues. Even if you have a great relationship with with your dealer, there is still the MOCO's area rep to deal with. If you don't mind me asking, what were your problems with the SEUC ?
Thanks,
Tom P.

did you do the SERT and pipes AFTER you took delivery? if you purchased the bike and had the work done before you took delivery then it is covered, if the work was done after, then it is between you and the dealer

I would certainly hope that anyone who is really worried about warranty or ESP coverage would speak directly to those who make the real decisions.  That would be the MoCo in the case of the warranty, and whomever the administrator is in the case of the ESP.  Listening to dealership folks who are trying to sell you modifications isn't a very good idea, and thinking a bunch of strangers on the internet will give you the straight and legally enforceable scoop isn't either.

Sinker, if you are that worried about warranty coverage then you need to leave the bike alone and just ride it.  When you reach the point you aren't happy with the current performance levels, then you need to assess your tolerance for risk, kind of like when making decisions on what stocks or funds to include in your 201k (used to be 401k).  If you have no tolerance for risk, then stick with the stock bike and the FDIC insured money market fund.  If you are the type that doesn't care about risk, then go nuts with heads, cams, throttle bodies, bigger bore and stroke, nitrous, etc., and jump into commodities.  Or if you're like most people and fit somewhere in the middle, you might try simple and easily reversible mods on the bike and a nice balanced mix of stock funds, bond funds, and interest bearing accounts for the 201k.  And if you make it through the factory warranty period unscathed, you can decide if you want to get a refund on that ESP and apply it toward some major mods. ;)

most of the posts failed to recognize "Thunderheader" I have had all the afore-mentioned exhausts....Dyno results usually give a more broader picture on what actually increases horsepower, I haven't seen any other exhaust that will match it......it is loud though!
