Hinge in Fuel Pump Arm on Delphi Bikes
« on: October 10, 2009, 11:37:30 PM »

One of the group PM'd asking if I had pics to illustrate the hinge in the fuel pump arm on the Delphi bikes.  Guess I've become predictable...  8)

If had never had one in hand before the instructions in the service manual could easily be not much help.  It's not a real intuitive part sight unseen.

FWIW I never found the thing to be that much help  getting the mess out of the tank anyway.  A little maybe.  But I can't fit my hand in there to extend and release it so always need a third hand or extra tool to push with or something.  Extending the arm does make it easier (at least for me) during reassembly though.

Since our bud currently fighting a fuel filter won't be the only guy to ever do it here's the pics in public too.

Normal position at normal resting angle:

To extend it the lower part of the arm with the pump must first pull away from the upper section:

Here's a before and after just made to perhaps better illustrate what the hinge does:

For someone who has never had this 10lb of "stuff" through the 5lb hole and reading the instructions for the first time,  this will be a big help.    Nicely done twolanerider! :2vrolijk_21:

And don't forget, the filter kit does not come with the screws and gasket for the top plate. HD recommends replacing the small screws and washers when removing this pump.

Yeah, the filter "kit" is a joke.  Doesn't even have a new o-ring for the filter itself.  The kit is everything you need; except for just about eveything else besides the filter.
