If you’re anything like me, your wife is now convinced that due to the chromosome situation, you’ve become a chromoholic. I’ve gone so far that I took off the beautiful silver painted rear frame covers and installed a chrome set. I’m not sure that was the right thing to do, but I’m afflicted.
Almost immediately after getting the SSERG, I started drooling over everybody’s shots of their Kury* LED license frame installation. It just looked right. When she’s just a bagger, that slipstream flow really is sweet off the rear end. But, the stock license mount really was offensive. (Note. I really, really, really feel bad for you HDI guys.)
However, that was half the battle. She still had two huge bazooka orifices completely blowing the image. I really loved the look of the Boom Cans. But, as I came off a sewing machine sounding airhead boxer, the reports on the rumble were not going to work in my world.
So, I purchased two of the H-D SE Billet Style Tapered Tip End part #80623-07. More frustration and hyperventilating with the Harley Parts/Accessories will be avoided at this time. Bottom-line, they arrived and they don’t work. We don’t have the muffler cans that they work on. The cans they work on don’t work on any SERG. And, why some goof ball at H-D put them in the P/A web catalog for a SERG… Cheese and Crackers, I’m hyperventilating. Here’s the SE muff cans tip mount (see the first picture below).
As identified in another thread, they won’t work, or will they?
Regardless, I was p-o’d and threw them in the corner of the garage. Adding insult to injury, there’s at least two different production runs. I had used one of our popular 20% off mail order sources and got one dated 9/15/08 and the other one’s dated 6/08/09. From three feet they appear matched. Within a foot, those of you that are visually oriented will observe there are differences in the production. Note. They’re assembled in the U.S.A. with parts from U.S.A. and Switzerland.
OK, they’ll work! I explained the burden to my good friends at renohd and what I thought I needed to resolve it. H-D doesn’t carry the part, but as I’ve said before renohd can do some magic. The adapter parts are on order and hopefully will be here within the week. When I get them in hand, I’ll post my installation.
Here’s what the right side looks like installed next to the left side stock can tip. (following thread pixs)
