Reading the color of spark plugs isn't necessarily the best way to check the fuel air mixture. Look at the deposits on the head of the valves and the top of the piston. This takes a bore scope to do it with out disassembling the engine. If you have the wrong heat range of plug you will get false readings. The color of the deposits on the exhaust valve is the best sign of proper combustion as long as the valve clearance is right.
