CVO 103 CR
« on: October 18, 2009, 09:58:17 PM »

I put a CVO 103 kit on my 2005 EG,After reading alot about it on here i also went with the Zippers 575 cams.In Zippers ad it says it makes it think it has more compression. So my question is what CR do you end up with using these cams.

Changing cams won't change the compression ratio.

but it will change your cranking compression. Did you do a compression test before you swapped out the cams?

Stock CR in the 04 103's is around 9.0 to 1. The Zippers 575's have earlier closing events that actually help your static CR and the bike runs better. The extra lift also helps with cylinder fill. There are a few cams made just for these low compression motors and there is nothing wrong with the 575's.

What heads were used when you built the 103" engine?  According to Zippers that 575 cam does its best work with the heads in the CVO 103 package.  Those heads are quite a bit different than many of the other options you might have grabbed.  Not saying the CVO 103 heads are necessarily good (they're nothing at all special).  But they are what was in mind as part of the combination for that cam.

OK
You have ~9.05/1 compression and 8.3/1 corrected for cam and about 167# cranking compression.
Your bike would feel like it got a shot of steroids if it could be bumped a point up and optimized for that cam especially with headwork.
