250 Mile Ride in 100 deg Temperature 2010 ULTRA Ltd 103"
« on: October 19, 2009, 01:02:22 AM »

Left Palm Springs at 12:00 and arrived in Phoenix at approx. 4:00 pm average temperature was 100 deg F. Average speed at 75 - 80 mph, stopped for water and gas a couple of times, traffic was good.

First time for this bike in this temperature. The bike ran great, so far stock, felt a little hotter than my 2004 SEEG but not overly concerned, did not have my Laser Tempserature Meter to measure engine temp when I finished my ride. Went out for dinner still 96 deg F.

So far so good, let the mods begin.

My Limited still seems to run hotter than my '09  did, BUT, using oil temp gauge, I see about 250-260 oil temp running the same air temps as you.

2-up, riding from Pahrump (near Vegas) to Riverside. Same speeds mostly same conditions.
If you do this kind of riding again, can you post temps using your IR gun? I'll do the same here, and maybe we can compare apples to apples.
just curious, my bike is running great also, but, I just can't leave it alone! LOL

I don't have my IR gun with me I forgot in Calgary.

Next time I ride this bike it will have an Andrews 54 H Cams, Head Work by Short Block Charlei (SBC), Catlless Head pipe thanks to Steve at Fullsac and Supertrapp Fatshot Disc Adjustable Mufflers, tuned either with HD SEST or TTS Mastertune.

Has anybody determined exactly what cams are in the 103" Limited???  I've heard the stock 96" cams and the 255's from the SE Stage II Kit......which are of course different.....

Still to this day no one from HD (maybe don't want us to know) or others are sure what cam is in the bike,  I keep hearing stock cams that are in the 96, then SE 255 Cams, I do not think they are the 255 cams, as these are in the SE 110s.

I have decided to go with the andrews 54H cams.

If you check the parts book, the part numbers are the same for the 2010 96" and 103" Touring bikes. I think it was a xxxxx-07A number, if I remember right.
We had a little discussion with the area rep here, and my dealer called me (on the road no less!) to confirm.

Besides, the 54's are a better choice than the 255's for the 103.....................................IMO!

Perhaps you'll find out when you get em out.  I switched my '07 (Stage I 103") to the 253 cams that came in the CVO 103", loved the way my 2006 SE ran with em......the Stage I ran pretty good, but the 253's really woke it up.
