Question on removing license plate reflector
« on: October 20, 2009, 08:37:12 PM »

I've read all the post and still not sure what I need to remove or loosen.  One post says that you have to completely remove the light and another says that you just loosen a couple of screws behind the plate and not the fender.  When I feel up behind the fender I fell on nut centered right behind where the plate is and then above that I feel the box behind the light and then what feels like another nut right above the box.  What am I missing.

I tried to get the dealer to remove it when I was picking it up but they said that you have to remove the rear tire.

I have removed mine without taking tire off....loosen back nut and behind the cover if i remember correctly.  It was pretty simple job.

I too removed mine with out removing the tire.

It takes about 15 to 20 minutes.  You do have to remove the plate frame and light assembly to remove the reflector.  It's not very hard to do.

The best way is to tape fender behind reflector then slip a thin peice of metal behind it and use a xacto knife and cut it off.

Loosen the light, the reflector is made of plastic, take some side cutters and cut a slot in the reflector and it will slip over the wire. No unplugging or total removing of anything. Took me a couple of minutes.

if u score the seam where it attaches to the light ... it comes right off... u dont have to cut it all the way to the bottom it will come off ... exacto knife is the best to use

When I did mine, I reached inside the fender and started loosening the nut.  After a short while I said s**t I think I fu**ed up.  Removed the license plate, loosened the screws and cut the reflector so I could slide it out.

Cheese and crackers, the '10 SESG doesn't have centered cans either.  Incredible!  Ya'know that Root Beer reminds my of my '79 R100RT.

OK,  :nervous: Scares me to think about you all using a knife that way.  Where's a Boy Scout when you need one?

Remove nut 2, pull cover off and separate connectors.  Then, unscrew the outside (under the plate) screw 1 (X2), lift the bracket off the fender, Then, remove the reflector by pulling it off the bracket and leading the wires out of it.
With the reflector off put the rest of it back together.  See depiction below.
