check out the belt on the 06 SEVROD  It's about an inch wide and that motor pumps out well over 100 ponies   can't believe the factory thinks nobody that owns a SEVROD isn't gonna pull hole shots - - now more than double the width of that belt for the heavy duty side car version that the MoCo produces and I would think you'd have enough belt for anything the majority of us are gonna have in a bagger    chains are dirty, noisy and wear out quickly along with the sprockets they turn  yeah they can handle bigger numbers on torque and hp than even the best belt but are we talkin streetable bikes or drag strip monsters that spend a saturdays on the street and the rest of the week in the shop

I agree as well, I informed the customer of the consequences of going to the chain. But he's the customer and I'm getting paid to do it so [smiley=nixweiss.gif]. I guess I'll be getting more work when he breaks something else [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Yeah, 'er 'uh, hd-dude,
The customer may not always be right, but he is ALWAYS the Customer!  That's what pays the bills, right?  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Later--HUBBARD

Most all belt breakage can be traced to a belt that is too loose os something that damaged the belt.  The person who has replaced 4 from burnouts most likely unknowingly runs them too loose or has worn sprockets.  If a belt jumps teeth, it almost always fails very shortly thereafter.  In fact, a properly adjusted belt appears tight to the guys who have been doing the finger tension test.

Even were it a loose belt issue for him before I'd still not want to use that as an excuse to jump to a chain.  If it's so stout that it's going to break something I'd want that something to be something cheap.  Don't make the weakest link a much more expensive part.

Just saw the Destroyer at a cycle show. This particular one was chain driven, and they advertised 165HP@9700RPM & 97 FT LBS@7600RPM, compression was something like 14:1. I picked up one of the handouts and will dig it out of the bag and scan it & post in the Destroyer thread.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I've rebuilt my new SE2 fatboy 103 to meet it's potential (dyno soon) and it has the narrow belt on it.  The owner of the dealership has done a swap to a Jims 120 on his SE2 and he doesn't seem to have any concerns with the narrow belt.  I gather frequent burnouts could lossen the belt so tension management is important to check more often (tread too [smiley=duhk.gif]). Though the cleaner belt is clearly a major advantage than a chain.  I'll risk the belt [smiley=behead.gif]
