I40 Rock slide near Maggie Valley
« on: October 26, 2009, 10:52:29 AM »

For those who travel to the Maggie Valley via I40 - there was a major rock slide across the highway this weekend. The road is expect to be closed for "months"

Sounds like the last west bound exit open is Maggie Valley.

Just heard that there was another slide in the TN / NC area. I don't think this was the same as the I40 one as it was documented. Looked cool but can't find the video. I saw it on wtoctv.com.

The BR parkway was shut down Saturday about 5-6 miles west of Ashville. We had to back track to I40 & take the fast way home.

Wow....was the highway already closed?  That would ruin your day....   ???

I think that was a different event. It doesn't appear to be I40.

Trust me it does ruin your day.  I work as part of a maintenance crew that maintains all the three dams and powerhouses on the Ocoee River and this rock slide just happen to be right in the middle of two of the dams.  Now we have to take an hour and a half detour to get to the other dam and powerhouse.  It is a terrific pain in the a$$.   :-\

The one on 64 is on the Ocoee River, close to the Copperhead lodge.

It is actually at Ocoee No. 2 Diversion Dam where the white water rafting put in is in between Cleveland, TN and Ducktown, TN.  I have some pictures of it and will try to post later.

Listening to the video, I think the road was already closed for a smaller slide issue before the one in the video occured.
