Other than tying into the battery, is there another spot to pick up a hot and ground without spliceing into the wires? I want to feed a Lowrance GPS unit.

Thanks for your sugestions....

Thats a good Ideal about that extra rocker switch! I think I will try that. Any suggestions on how to route the wires to the rocker.

There is a four position gray connector under the seat. It is tied down with a barbed wire tie in front of the battery. The orange wire with the white stripe is the switched wire from the fairing. There is no need to run a wire up to it. Also attached to that wire is a heavy gauge red wire that is constant power. If you want I'll PM you my number and talk you through finding it

Where and how are you mounting the GPS unit?  Might make a difference on where easiest power comes from.

I'm mounting the gps on the right side handle bars. The lowrance comes with a u-bolt and a quick ball hook up. It is a pretty nice set up. The one connector plugs right into the stero in the dash. The second has two options. The cigerate lighter adapter comes with a speaker that swivels off the lighter connection and would probably be ok. But I think I would prefer the sound from the speakers on the bike. Once I get-er done I will posts some pics. Be about a week or so because it is freaking cold here in the garage in PA.

Might check accessory parts availablity for the unit.  Accessory availability for my Garmin included a separate power/audio cable with unterminated ends for the power.  You could hard wire or put a plug on the end of it at whatever length you wanted.  I use that cord on the bike plugged in to the cig lighter and the cord that came with the unit when it's in the truck.  The extra cord was cheap.

I advise caution in using the cigarette adaptor for power.  I did it on my roadglide and the power wire rubbed the plastic glove box cover so much that it took the finish off the plastic.  Hard wire it or protect the bike from the chaffing that will occur  between the power cord and the bike

Hey Twolaner,

Where do you get your sound from. The built in speaker with the unit? And can you hear it over the bike?

LV, I don't even use the audio.  I actually did the first couple of times I took it out.  That was enough to let me know it could be a bit annoying.  Fortunately on the unit I use the mapping and nav functions are so good and so intuitive I've not found it necessary.  Works very very satisfactorily without the audio and I don't have to screw with the extra cord or remembering to switch the bike over to AUX when I want to hear it.
