Heated seat not working???
« on: October 30, 2009, 07:50:35 PM »

Has anyone had problems with their heated seat?  Now before you all get started, I realize many in the south don't even know where the switch is.  :nixweiss:

However, mine quit on me and the dealer informed me that an element has gone and it can't be repaired.
They want to order me a new seat at the rock bottom price of only $1,350.00 CND - Yeah right!

There must be someway of fixing or replacing an element, after all you wouldn't throw out the stove if one element went on you, you would simply replace the broken one.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks!

A couple thoughts on cheaper fix:

1. Post in the 'want to buy' section for a stock '08 seat (or maybe you could trade seats with someone in Florida who never uses the heater--j/k).
2. Post in WTB for a used heated seat (from any year/model), then take out the heating element and move it into your original seat.
3. Buy a new or used element and install in your old seat  (I know there are 'seat fixers' who might be able to point you to a source for heating elements, and of course Corbin etc have access to the elements for their seats).

Hope you find a fix--that's a crazy-a$$ price.

Grizz, The heated seat on my 07 only lasted a little longer then my heated grips, I could see the handwriting on the wall, with all of the engine problems going on as well, I traded it for an 09 SERG.

This may seem like a dumb question, but did you try turning on your accessory switch and then see if the heated seat works?  :nixweiss: Some dealers have mistakenly plugged the seat into the accessory plug under the seat instead of the plug that is turned on and off by the ignition switch.

Grizzly,
Sounds like you should still be under warranty if you just have the 2 years with a 2008 bike?!
Be firm with the dealer and demand a new seat, your bike is very new and as we all know,
the darn dealers should take care of us...TimBone's famous last words.
Hope they can work with you and bottom line...Take Care of You!

Hello, just purchased  an 09 SEUC. I tried the seat last night for the first time and don't think it is working? Should it get warm to touch instantly? or does it take a while? Also I watched the volt gauge thinking it would drop a little with the seat turned on High and the bike not running but it didn't. thanks guys.

I'd check out some custom upholstry shops. I had the seating element in my wifes car go, and the stealer wanted an outragious amount of dough to fix it. I figured I'd call a couple of upholstry shops and the local guy said bring it in. $100 later, all fixed.  If mine on the SEUC ever goes, that's the route I'll go. I'm sure it might be a few more bucks, but should still be far lower than the alternative.

Hey Grizzly...I may have an 08 seat for sale as of labour day and I am in Toronto, although the seat will be in North Carolina and will have to ship from there as that is where I am swapping it out for a new Corbin dual tourer that i ordered...not in perfect shape with the usual boot marks and wear on the seam under the inner right thigh, but the heating element works just fine...let me know if you might be interested. Or maybe we could do the deal/swap here and I use your old seat to get to North Carolina...leaving next Thursday...just a thought.

Sorta like my first wife. Takes a few minutes to warm up at first, but then if everything's working OK -Watch out!!  :)

Here's the reply from Red Devil, which is right on target:  "This may seem like a dumb question, but did you try turning on your accessory switch and then see if the heated seat works?   Some dealers have mistakenly plugged the seat into the accessory plug under the seat instead of the plug that is turned on and off by the ignition switch."

Even after I had fixed this, one of the mechanics plugged the seat back into the accessory plug.

Thanks for the offer, but I decided that I really don't use the heat very often at all, (how did we ever manage without them???)  If it becomes an issue for me, I'll most likely go the Corbin route as well, seeing that everyone is so high on them, they must be pretty good.
