burning up middle of rear tire
« on: October 31, 2009, 02:29:13 AM »

just got new skins on my 07 springer have 26000 miles only get about 7000 till my tire looks very thin. I didn't go to my local dealer who is straight up and very good. Went to the local high pro shop who I have been dealing with for 20 years, they sold me a dunlop sportmax roadsmart tire which they said was a multi compund tire hard in the middle and still soft on sides would wear better and still handle good. has anyone had these on their bike if so what can I expect?

i cant offer a opinion on your dunlop sportmax roadsmart tire, but its normal that these wider tyres show more tread wear in the centre line unless your riding alot bends to compensate higher motorway mileage

What kind of air pressure you running? Sounds like you might be running to much which would cause the middle to wear quickier.  :nixweiss:

Rbaker,  are you sure that the screw that holds the rear of your seat and the front of your fender rack isn't protruding into the wheel well and making contact with tire when you hit a sharp bump?  I've seen that wear pattern before and that's what it turns out to be.  Potentially dangerous situation that should be checked asap.

Definitely IS NOT normal wear, and needs to be checked out immediately before a major failure develops.  JerseyT may be right on the money, that looks like something has been gouging the tire right down the centerline.

Hi, there have been 5 new rear tires and they all wore even, except this one, where it incorrect balance weights are right next to wear pattern.
I also checked your suggestion, right after I read it, Thank you.

Hi, is it normal to have already the middle part of my tire almost warn out after 5000 miles on my scoot…I have a Springer CVO 2009 with the 240 rear tire…is it normal or I should be getting more miles out of it….in my other scoot a Softail Custom 2007 the rear tire last me for at least 10000 miles…that’s why I am a litlle bit surprise that after only 5000 miles I have that problem……I was looking into replacing it with a 250 Dunlop….has somebody already done that and if is feasible and how is the handling…
Thanks….

These are the Harley Detachable , Had to use 4 different mounting kits for the parts. think I posted on this with part numbers, let me check thru all of my posts to see if I can put a shortcut here.
