noise
« on: November 01, 2009, 11:55:36 AM »

On my 2009 SEUC I have a ticking noise when I first start her up after being off for about an house. In a mile it's gone. I run Amsoil in everything. I can't tell where the noise is coming from. There is just over 16,000 mile on her. I guess when it craps out I'll know.

Could be a lifter bleeding down and taking some time to pump back up...  The noise would be the resulting clearance until the lifter pumps back up...

What would the fix be and does it hurt to drive it?

Does your oil pressure come up right away?  Or is there a delay?  Hard to diagnose without being there.  If your oil pressure comes up right away, and the noise persists for "a mile or so", then I would replace the lifter.  If it takes "a mile or so" until your oil pressure comes up, then the issue would take more detailed analysis...

Short term, you are not going to make anything worse by riding.  Longer term, you want to figure out what's going on...

There's a lot more to it than just letting the dealer fix it.

As Chip unfortunately learned awhile back there was fixing it and there was fixing it.  If memory serves correctly his final fix was a change away from the OE lifters that had failed redundantly.  Took a bit of "discussion" by the dealership with the MoCo to get it done.  Fortunately Chip's got a good local dealer to have his back.
