Tour Pak changes from 08 to 09?
« on: November 01, 2009, 06:49:08 PM »

I am looking to purchase a used KTP for a 2010 SESG using the Detachable Two-Up Tour-Pak Mounting Rack.  I thought I would get the best advice on tour packs from the Ultra owners which is why I placed the thread here.

Is there a change between the 2008 to 2009 tour packs which will make the older one more difficult to mount?

I've not seen direct comparisons of the bottoms to notice any change myself.  Right now I'm looking at an 08 and 09 KTP, but advice on what other years will work with the newer 2009 detachable mounting rack would be helpful to open up other options.

Thanks in advance.

Could anyone possibly post a picture of the bottom of a 2009 or 2010 KTP please?

Disregard,

I got an email back from my dealer with the following response:

The boxes are the same . They just "beefed" up the support bracketing . So that it can carry more weight  . They also  moved it back a little so as to access the seat screw easier .
I hope that is what you are asking about and helps .

I have 2 that I use the first is off a 1980 FLH its Vivid Black fiberglass and I have used it on my 2 Heritages for travel.

I bought a second when I had both Bikes and it is off an 05 Street Glide its molded plastic as are the current models.

They work about the same the only thing may be having to drill new mounting locations if you get a used one from a different mounting bracket.

I now have the Vivid Black on a Detach on my FLHXSE works great. Matches the inner fairing paint and contrast wheels. Also it has lighting on the sides with a detach harness too!

you can get antenna relocation kit that mounts to the King Pak and allows for using your existing antenna too. This is the main difference between the Street Glide Pak and others is the single antenna mount.

Thanks Wheels,

I guess I'm locked in already, because I just ordered a used 08 utlta TP.  Now I just have to get it painted and figure out whether or not I can easily wire in the Brake lights and turn signals.  I'll post the question about the wiring and lights over on the SESG board.

Those are some great looking Pics.

The whole reason I started this thread is that I've been talking with Larry about having him paint my KTP custom to match the SESG.  Not just the color, but he'll probably work in the Gold leaf and flames too.  We've not hit all the details, but you'll get an Idea if you see his SERG Tour pack on the Gay Gray GREY GHOST.

Sorry Larry,  just couldn't help myself. :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

275$ is a great price
I think the Color Match comes with the pinstripe Flames too, Maybe
I should just see if I can get one painted and Pinstriped to match.

IMHO
I think $275 is probably not bad for one color and is probably average for a non-CVO bike.  For a CVO-bike it is probably pretty good so long as they guarantee the work for at least a year if not two and the paint actually matches.

That being said $275 is not the kind of price you pay for pin striping, leaf, and/or other color work.
Just my 2 cents.
