Touring seat Question?
« on: November 04, 2009, 05:18:58 PM »

It does't look like the MotoCo is going to do anything about this crappy seat on the 09 so I guess I'll find something myself. At 6'2" and 280lbs and 31" inseam the stock seat feels to close. But it hard to really tell because the front of the seat once your on it stick straight up in the air. Not very comfortable. But after a 2 or 3 hour ride butt is numb and hip and back hurt. So I'm looking for suggestions. Harley make anything (air zepplin,or a touring seat, mustang or such. How about the saddleman line. Anyone my size hav eany experience with this??

At 5' 10", I'm not as tall as you, but I tip the scales at about 260. I, too, found the stock seat to be less that comfortable on longer rides.

I bought the Mustang Wide Solo with Rider Backrest and added the Wide Passenger Pillion. It's a great setup. I've had this same seat on all three of my Road Glides ('05, '07, and SERG). I find it very comfortable. I rode 3200 miles round trip to Sturgis on it with no complaints and just got back from a 1600+ mile round-trip to Dallas last week.

A lot of guys swear by Corbin, some Danny Grey, others Saddleman and many touring riders -- metric and Harley -- say that you can't beat a Russell Day Long seat. There are others out there, too, but those are the ones I hear the most about. Lots of choices, a wide range of prices and there's bound to be a seat somewhere that will fit you.

Cheers!

I have same problem with stock seat. I just ordered an HD Hammock seat. These seats are the ones on the SEUC bikes. I sat on one it feels good. I found the seat on eBay for $330.00. MSRP on seat is $499 thru HD. I think I will like the seat. Iam 6'4"

I personally will not buy a HD seat after the rather pathetic excuse for a seat on a $32,000 bike.  I really feel that HD put that crappy seat on hoping they could squeeze an extra couple of hundred dollars out of each rider knowing the rider would have to replace the seat.  Also for the fact they have never really addressed the seat gap issue.

I also feel the same way for the windshields.

Buying an HD seat would confirm that they can get away with continuing this practice in the future.

There are some members that swear by C&C seats as well. Might be worth a look  :nixweiss:

I had an Air Zepplin seat on my 07 & it was comfy. Looks like they changed the seat design some for the 08 & later bikes now thou.

Received the Corbin "Gambler" saddle today.  Looks great and the fit is exceptional.  I'll give it a good ride tomorrow.  Instructions say it will take about 2K miles for it to really feel right.  I'll let you know.

I agree $32000 SERG looks good but the thing that will make or brake the ride is the seat, they need to get the seat guy and put him on it for a few 1000 miles and see what he has to say about it then. Poor excuse of a seat if you ask me. I have a 36" inseam, I had a 97softtail classic I got rid of I had Mustang seats on it could ride for ever.

I did try a Le Pera the other day.  They will send you an uncovered seat configured to your likings to try out.  It cost $25 + shipping (both ways) and they bill you for the cost of the seat.  When you send it back they credit your credit card.

Did a little over 200 miles on this Corbin Gambler saddle yesterday and I have to say that I'm more than pleased.  Well worth the money and no more frustration with the (second) stock seat.  I'm not real clear on what is happening to Corbin as far as a possible sale is concerned, but I'm happy to get one now before anything does happen to them.
