2.25" FullSacs . Want to add Back Pressure?
« on: November 08, 2009, 08:36:02 AM »

OK I have the 2.25" Full Sac baffles catless stock 09 headers and I feel I have lost low end tq. In an effort to get some tq. back I am about to add two 1/4" bolts in a cross patten to the baffle ends to gain some back pressure. Which should reduce the exhaust flow 1/2"  and give me some more low end tq. in my thinking. Have done this with straight pipes years ago and it worked. Anyone care to comment, before I give it a try. Also I like the sound of the 2.25" baffles and this mod should not change the note to much.? What you all think. I know I could change baffles easyer but want to try this fisrt.   Thanks Doc

Doc, by wanting to add backpressure you really are creating turbulance. For this to be effective it needs to be created on the inboard end of the baffles. You can accomplish this on both baffles by installing the bolt setup at the end of the head pipe.

The concept of adding a bolt through the end of the pipe is simply that it breaks the pulse wave and prevents reversion.  The concept of using a washer welded to a bolt and rotating it in the pipe and watching torque increase until hp decreases uses the same concept plus restriction.

Just another thought before I do anything. I wonder what gains would be made by blocking off the cross over and making the stock header a 2 into 1 and still useing the Full Sac 2.25" baffles. Any ideas on this?   Doc

I have tried them in the past and really had no luck with them, I have a set of them here that I tried before on another bike.   Thanks Doc
