Low speed wobble
« on: November 13, 2009, 12:57:01 AM »

Hi
Have 09 ultra and have had a wobble at 0 to 10k's / hr but not all the time, has anyone had the same problem.
What was the cause?, my tyre does not appear to be cupped. Does the ABS recall / upgrade have anything to do with prob. When i got home i went to dealer and of course everything was ok.
I was loading bike on a ferry with several hundred other bikes and it was difficult to keep on track also had problems in a parade.

Thanks

Have you had the steering head bearings checked?  I would have the bearings checked to make sure they have been properly greased.  Also check to make sure the fall away is correct which should be outlined in your manual with the specifications.

Low Tire pressure can act like this as well as to tight of a neck bearing.

They can do a fallaway test with the cables attached at the dealer, although I prefer the old method of removing all the cables and checking it from there.

Also have you checked to see if your neck bearing was ever greased?

Please let us know what you find,

Update
In hindsight the wobble was probably a servere vibration. The problem occured after about 200kms of slow riding (60km/hr or less)and the ride home was about 900kms at reasonable rate (only booked once, 3 points) this may have helped round out the tyre.

On closer inspection the front tyre is totally screwed (15200kms) and dealer is replacing free of charge.
Have also had ABS down load so when completed, hopefully no more problems?
Have just had 16k service and everything seems OK with the rest.

Probably did not notice the vibration earlier because had no idea how smooth the ride should be after a Roadster in the 70's a dyna and then a springer I thought shake rattle and roll was part of the deal!

I say when completed because there are no tyres in the country and they do not know when they are coming, also had a rock break the the HID head light and no replacement glass in the country either, :nixweiss: so I guess i will play with the springer it  won't feel as neglected for a while. ;D
