Got to admit I'm not sure if that sucked or not.  To someone who doesn't know nearly enough about what he's watching to have an informed opinion I thought Brandon won.  Thought he did with that last take down.  It may not have been robbed with a capital R.  But I think he got robbed.

Sport seems more and more like pro boxing.  If you want to be sure don't let the decision get to the judges.

I gotta believe that while waiting for the decision - Brandon thought he won and Randy thought he lost...

Brandon did the most damage in two of three rounds...  Randy's whole strategy was to get Brandon down....and never succeeded...

I don't know to much about the scoring....but it sure looked wrong...

Brandon had the most strikes (fists and legs) and he got the only take down......both high scoring points.  Randy "controlled" Brandon through most of the fight by pinning Brandon against the fence and that scores also.

In my mind (and I was sure, before they announced the winner) Brandon was the winner.  I told Terrie during itermission "the fight will be one by just one point from each of the judges (and it was) but if it's a tie in the judges mind they'll always give it to the previous or current champion".  If Randy hadn't been a previous champion that fight would have gone to Brandon.

Brandon brought a lot more to the fight tonight than Randy did (and I'm a Randy fan, also) and Randy's performance was a little embarrassing and lacking.   He may not have won this one but I think Brandon can hold his head up respectfully for what he brought to this fight tonight.

Andy's daughter (and Brandon's wife), Kerry, fights Kim Couture (Randy's ex-wife) next week on Strikeforce Challenger Series on Showtime HD on Fri. 11/20/09 at 8:00 p.m.

Second round seemed obvious.  First was close and third looked close until late.  I wouldn't have wanted to be the guy Couture was beating on; but by their standards you're right in that he never seemed to succeed in getting him down and doing damage.  When Brandon put him down with 40-some seconds left in the third I thought was the clincher.  But I was wrong...

That judging absolutely sucked!  I didn't realize that "time leaning on an opponant" counted for more that doing actual damage.

Ok, I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt because I'm a dumass on the subtle technicalities of UFC judging (no sarcasm there; really).  But, yeah, what Ernie said ^ !

I wasn't home so I didn't get to see the fight, it sounds like the Bisping vs. Hamill fight. Hamill took the first two rounds, no question and you could argue either way on the last round and they gave the split decision to Bisping! I've watched this fight three times trying to see what the judges were seeing. they must have been sleeping. Thats the problem with leaving it up to the judges! Well I like Brandon and Randy, so it might be a good rematch. You got to admit for his age Randy is a heck of a fighter.

I'm a huge UFC/MMA fan and am pretty well versed about the sport in general.  There have been several questionable decisions of late and I'm a proponent of a few rule changes to help this great sport avoid the rocky road that boxing has experienced.

1)  5 Round Fights -- The added cardio needed for the 2 extra rounds really seems to help distinguish the winner from the loser by even the most casual of fans.  Currently only championship bouts are scheduled for 5 rounds.  I'm not sure they need to be lengthened as we need to remember that MMA rounds are 5 minutes as opposed to the 3 minute rounds of boxing.

2) New Scoring Sytem -- The 10 point must system is a leftover from boxing and needs to go as it is antiquated.  Also a clearer definition of what scores well needs to be put in place.  MMA basically consists of 3 components; Striking, Grappling and Submissions.  We need to know how much emphasis to place on a takedown, defending a takedown, submission attempts and submission defense as well as the striking (which is generally the easiest to score).

3) More judges -- I think having 5 instead of 3 judges (maybe even including the referee as a judge as he has a better view than anyone) also gives more assurance that they get it right. Right now many MMA judges are holdovers from boxing and so more training of judges specifically on submission and grappling is DEFINITELY needed

4) Scoreboard Scoring -- One of the problems with these decisions of late is that each corner is relaying to their fighter who they "thought" won the round and it's very difficult for corner men to distinguish reality from their optimism as they are obviously going to be biased.  In the Machida/Rua fight Rua's cornermen told him he won EVERY round and although there may be a case for that, the reality was each round was to close to definitively make such a proclamation.  If Rua had known how the fight was being scored I can guarantee that his approach to the 3-5th rounds would have been more aggressive.  The answer?  Lengthen the rest period to 2 minutes and have each judge post their score from the previous round so that it can be viewed by the fighter, the cornermen AND the fans.  It's only in combat sports that you don't know where you stand during the competition.  I think this rule change, as much as any, would make for better more aggressive fighting because if you KNEW you were down 3 rounds to 1 going into the last you would take more chances in order to end the fight by strikes or submissions.

Glad to see there's some MMA fans around.  Most of my buddies just aren't into it and so I'm lacking in the "guy talk" in this department (as if you couldn't tell).  Thanks for putting up with my long post!
