Oil Temp Gauge In Dash
« on: November 18, 2009, 09:33:12 AM »

I know some on this site are useing the HD gauge is this the part# your useing.75320-05A ? Cat. says it does not fit but I know some have used it on ther 09 SERG3. What are your thoughts as it looks like HD will not make a guage that will match our 09 SERGs.   Thanks Doc

Doc, the comments have been of an apparently significant lighting difference.  One picture I saw showed them looking much different at night.

Can't assume that one instance of product development automatically translates to another.  But Harely did (finally) get a silver gauge out to match the silver instruments used in the 04 SEEGs.  Granted, it took them three years or so.  And even then they were never an absolutely perfect match.  But they got there.  So with that as a guide you should have a new alternative by 2012 or so...  ???

Really at night would not bother me. But would hate to see a big differance in the day time , would like to see it match.  Anyone have a pic of one that shows at least two guages at the same time for a comparision?  Thanks Doc

There is always another way (assuming you don't mind breaking the piggy bank).  Check out the stuff from Dakota Digital; for only $1200 you replace all the gauges with some very slick digital units (including oil temp) in your choice of red or blue.

They look really great but just need the temp gauge, and that would look odd without the whole set of gauges.  Doc

The difference is your gauges now show (light) through, were the oil temp gauge your getting ready to install shows (light) around. I hope that makes sense to you.

I had one, just took it out for the above $1200.00.

That wasn't the reason I took it out though, someone here made me do it...... :nixweiss:

Honestly no big deal, you can take that Ambient temp gauge and toss it as far as I am concerned. USELESS.

The oil temp gauge kit listed in the 1st post for our spun gauges is on backorder until Dec 12th..   Picking up one from a dealer about 60 miles away on Saturday.  Any chance for a ride.   Lucked out and they are even having 20% that day.

I installed the 75320-05A oil temp gauge and while not a perfect match, it's close enough that most will not notice it's not part of the original gauge package. The difference at night is more dramatic because it in not illuminated by backlighting like the other SERG gauges.

On another note, the Dakota Digital Dresser packages are available on Ebay for $989.95 Buy it Now!

Only difference is it lights different at night, I don't ride after dark so for me , no difference.

Another difference is that the instructions tell you how to wire it into the fuse block.  While the schematics show the correct wiring, the bike itself is not wired for it so you have to get creative!  I installed it awhile back before the new 2010 parts catalog said "not for use on the FLTRSE3".  Bastages

The newer ones don't require fuse box installation.......09 and up

I didn't do the fuse block installation on my 2007 or my 2009. Pulled the power from the same source as the ambient air temp gauge it replaced.
