« on: November 19, 2009, 01:52:08 PM »

Having owned an 08 cvo ultra & now an 09 i find the ride a lot firmer, i used to run 25lbs on the 08.

Cyril,
I just went from 08 Ultra classic to 2010 CVO ultra, 08 shocks 25lbs was on the upper limits of psi and 2010 25 is at the lower limits, I'm runnin 45-50 psi but I like a firm ride.  With the new shocks, tires, and rear end I don't think your 09 is ever gonna replicate the 08 ride (to me a good thing). JMHO.

I went from an 07 to the 09,  I ran 20 lbs on the 07 the 09 takes 40 lbs, it rides decently and handles great, but if your seeking  a return to the soft ride you had previously  your out of luck the new frame rides a lot stiffer.

I am trying to find the right pressure to set the air shocks when I ride alone with no luggage. I weigh about 185 lbs. I think I am going to settle for about 15 lbs because that is where it rides the smoothest and does not seem harsh when I hit a bump or driveway apron. When I have a passenger and full load of luggage about 40-45 lbs seems to be just right. The ride is firm, and it handles bumps and cattle grates just fine(went over a lot of those last summer on my trip from Simi Valley CA. to Gordon Nebraska on mostly side roads). I am very impressed by the way this bike handles a curve. I understand that the tire compound is hard in the center and softer on the sides. I can hear a difference in sound when I get into a good lean on a nice sweeper. So far the tires seem to be wearing just fine, but I only have 6200 miles them.  BYW I am riding an 09SEUC with street glide (FLHX) rear air shocks. CAHDBIKER

Yes, that about sums it up. Found the same - ran the 07 at 25, the 09 at 50 (but have experimented with lower) and the 09 is a lot stiffer.
