Seat-of-Pants SERT setup?
« on: December 30, 2005, 11:43:04 AM »

Has anyone done a successful mapping of their SEEG by using the seat of the pants method outlined in the RT manual?  I've read it a bunch of times and seems like you could get it 90%.  Maybe even closer by using the Dakota Digital A/F sniffer.  Once you have the A/F logging data, and then the software showing you where to plug in the corrected ratios, I'd think it would have paid for itself the very first time.

Screamin Beagle bought a Power Commander on-line with pre-mapped settings, rode around with me, adjusted some stuff with his laptop and other than the rev limiter is runnin beside me till he hits the rev limiter. He spent $300 I spent $750 for a dealer installed and dyno'd Race Tuner - - - Lot to be said for old school

Someone who was good tuning carbs by the "seat of the pants" method should be able to do the same thing with a DFO/TFI, PC, RT, etc.  May not be as precise as a good dyno tune with exhaust gas analysis, but if all you're looking for is good driveability rather than max torque and HP it should be fine.

sorry to all for screwing up the start of this thread.  serves me right for being home sick and then trying to think and type at the same time
The product I am trying to describe is the Daytona Technologies Twin Scan 88 and the WEGO A/F sensor.  According to the literature, letting the WEGO figure out the ratios you are getting at the pipe, then the TwinScan88 figures out where to tell you to adjust on the A/F tables for the EFI/SERT.
Seems we are all relying on a lot of substandard dyno techs when we all have the data available to us and achieve the same results.

Humm, I have found a link to the info you are talking about. looks like it would be cheaper than a dyno tune where I am. I would also like to know if anyone has experience with the twin scan+ and the wego thing. I used to be a mechanic and being at the dealer's mercy doesn't do it for me. I would have to pay full price for parts from them or they won't work on my bike. I have been trying to find other options.
