Hey every one, I was wondering if any one is having problems with over heating and shutting down of the 110.As I said in my intro the other day I just ordered my cvo ultra, in which I hope to get in Jan.also started looking at things to get for it and did get the aux eng fan kit. also plan to run the hd Syn3 unless there is something better. Thanks for any input,Charlie

the factory fan does work

but the sensor has to be installed properly - many of the various se air cleaners hold the temp sensor way too far away from the head - it has to be firmly held so that it just clears the heads fins or it wont come on till things are way too hot

i would have preferred that hd used a sensor that was bolted to the rear head - that would alleviate the issue. on my first installation i had it mounted to the back of the round air cleaner - it would only come on after the bike had been ridden hard and shut off, upon restart 5 or 10 mins later it would come on... when i moved the sensor closer it would then come on in stop and go traffic like its supposed to - on my second installation i followed the directions and it worked properly right off.

That's the last thing you want to run in it... search the forum for "oil" and you'll find many threads on better lubricants to use. Most here either go with Amsoil or Mobil1..... but whatever you do.... get rid of the Syn3.

I had the aux. fan on my Electraglide. Made a great heater pushing all that hot air onto my right leg in the summer.
Would not recommend unless you enjoy boiled leg!

Fan is not needed if you open up the intake and exaust and add a tuner and have bike re-tuned. Oils also make big difference in Temps.

but the fan, if installed properly WILL cool the engine very well and WILL NOT void the warranty....

many say ftw... but its important to me - so i have left all the epa stuff alone and installed the fan

My approach to the overheating problem on my 2009 SE Ultra Classic:

  1.  Remove cat from exhaust header
  2.  TTS Mastertune
  3.  Fullsac 1.75" CVO cores
  4.  SE Ventilator air cleaner
  5.  Jet Hot Extreme Sterling ceramic coating on exhaust header
  6.  Amsoil 20W-50 synthetic V-Twin engine oil
  7.  Lenale engine and oil cooler fans
  8.  Fairing mounted  oil temperature gauge.

This set up has completely eliminated any heat issues both to the engine and the rider / passenger. I do a lot of two-up touring with a full load of gear and heat was a big problem with bike in stock form. After changes the bike runs great with plenty of power, and good fuel MPG. I control the fans manually with the accessory switch, based on oil temp gauge readings (on at 230 deg) . Only needed in stop and go traffic but saves the day when stuck in that mess  (prevents ETMS from kicking in and shutting off the rear cylinder). Must admit, a lot to do to an expensive motorcycle to make it perform correctly but well worth the effort.

That little Lenale fan that Six38 posted a picture of moves a whole lot of air for a little fella, in a jam it will cool well enough to keep my bike out of limp mode, I haven't had to use it often ,but like a spare tire its nice to have when you need it.

I have the lenal fan on my 07 Ultra 96''  its amazing how well that little fan works.......

LONGTIMEHDRIDER, I have an 09SEUC which I have ridden thru the desert to Las Vegas at temps easily reaching 107-110 degrees on the freeway and in traffic. The engine management system would shut off the rear cylinder like it is suppose to do. The only problems I encountered is that when it was stock I had to endure constant pinging (under a load)  when I used non California gas. This happen from the time I filled up  in Las Vegas (went to Gordon Nebraska from Simi Valley CA and back last June) until I filled up in Oakhurst Ca on the way home. Oakhurst is in the central east part of CA. Since then I have installed the Fullsac setup with 1.75 inch baffles, Steve's map, removed the cat, and HD open air cleaner. When I make my next out of state trip I will make a post regarding the pinging issue. Congradulations on your new bike. Let us know how your fans work in traffic. I would be interested to know if they cool the engine enough so that the engine management system that shuts off the rear cylinder does not cut in. Thanks CAHDBIKER

Six38, How do you have your fans wired, and when do you usually use them? Thanks in Advance (I have the same set up you do minus the oil temp gauge and fans ) and I am using Redline 20-60. Also I recently found out that Amsoil makes a straight 60 WT synthetic if anyone is interested. I use it in my 95 Heritage which has an S&S 107. CAHDBIKER

I was looking for oil cooler fans and ran across this http://milans-cycle-world.tripod.com/ I don't know anyone who has used this product, but the price is not to bad. And I may have to give them a try. I think the owner of this web site has posted on this board few times.

I see on his site now he is out of fans and won't have any in stock till Feb.
