fuel tank mounts
« Reply #125 on: December 30, 2009, 05:15:30 PM »

Hey all, I've just received a safety recall notice from HD Mo-Co. It states the Mo-Co has determined that the fuel tank front mounts on certain model year 2009 and 2010 Touring family vehicles (including CVO touring and Trike products) built June 6, 2008 thru November 19, 2009 may distort in reaction to severe frame damage from a frontal collision and in the presence of an ignition source result in a fire.  They are strongly urging anyone having one of these bikes contact their dealers to have these mounts fixed. Has anyone else received this notice?

Hey, vtyanqui!

That recall was reported here a few weeks ago. Perhaps someone who excels at searching the forums can give us a link. :nixweiss:

My scooter went in for service the following week and the local stealership already had the info and the kits. :2vrolijk_21:

Talking to my mechanic, though, he made an interesting observation. If you have a front-end collision bad enough to cause the front tank mounts to rupture the gas tank, leaking gas and an explosion are probably a very, very minor concern... assuming you survived.   :confused5:

Be sure to take your finite element analysis with you to court.

Just came back from dealer, they claim they have not received the parts yet.....salesman said they did the service managers bike last week, before Christmas.  Oh well, guess I'll try to avoid a front end collision before they call me.
Happy New Year to all.

;) I had the fix installed last week and it is black plastc/rubber devices that cover the front tank mounts and then cap the mounting screws. I thought the same thing that if a head on colision happens that is probably the least of my worries but I gotter done anyway. Happy New Year!
