Premium Tour-Pak Hinge Installation
« on: December 03, 2009, 12:19:48 AM »

I installed the Premium hinges tonight to replace the original cheap looking ones. I did this job by myself with the help of two straps that I hooked to the ceiling and then to the Tour-Pak top.

The first thing I did was mount two straps to the ceiling and to the Tour-Pak Top.

I took out the carpet top and bottom to expose the rivets.

I drilled out the rivets on the Tour-Pak top first so I could move that out of the way before drilling out the bottom. I used a 1/8" bit to drill out the center of the rivets.

This pic shows drilling out the rivets behind the foam gasket. I used a screw driver to hold the gasket out of the way.

Here all the rivets are out on the top and it's out of the way to drill out the bottom.

Now I'm drilling out all the bottom rivets.

Installing the new hinges I found that the holes needed to be drilled out because the rivets were smaller that the new screws. I used a 3/16" bit to drill all the holes a little larger.

Looks nice :2vrolijk_21: .

One potentially helpful hint to those that do this next.  NV may not have run in to it.  But it's a good idea to hold the hinge on the outside (painted side) of the tour pak or lid as you drill the last rivet on each piece.  The drill bit can grab it and spin the whole thing when there is no other second position holding it in place.  Metal pieces spinning against your painted parts could make the entire job very unpleasant.

I could not be happier the way way this project turned out. This was a 3  :drink: project for me. You would think that HD would put this kind of hinge on CVO's but then what would I do in the man cave garage. Oh, I don't want to hear any chit about how dirty my cave is. I just need a little time to get things back in place. LOL :2vrolijk_21:
