baffle ? boss fatcat
« on: December 06, 2009, 07:09:31 PM »

I didn't realize when I bought the boss fatcat that I got the concentric quiet baffle,I have a 2010 roadglide w/stage 3 103 kit from HD
I called D&D and the have three different baffles concentric, wrapped and not wrapped they suggested wrapped, from what I can tell
the only thing different from concentric to the wrapped is the flap welded at the end of the concentric to keep it quiet I'm
thinking,Asked if I cut the flap out if it would be the same as the wrapped baffle they said it couldn't be cut out  because it was welded
what do you guys think?I'm going in for the tune to Cycle Rama end of Dec.
I dint mind load but want to use the right baffle for making the best power without killing bottom end

I wouldn't cut it. Buy the other one and listen/ride both of them. Keep the one you like. Sell the other one on Ebay.

The concentric baffle will kill your top end performance on the stage 3 103 build. That baffle is recommended for stock engines. If you want the best performance and do not mind VERY loud then go with the performance baffle. Otherwise the wrapped baffle is the way to go and is the most popular.

hd-dude,
What do you think about the quiet concentric baffles on an 09 SERG?  I have the louder baffle now, and need to quiet down but don't want to lose any performance. Most expensive option is to go back to stock with fullsac 2" baffles.  Thanks

I tested the different FatCat mufflers on my TC 110 with CR595 cams, 9.8:1 CR, and worked heads with stock valve sizes. The Quiet muffler performed the worst. The regular muffler was next, the Quiet Big Bore muffler performed WAAAY better than both of them on my build. So I kept that one. But it's by NO MEANS quiet. I also have the regular FC Big Bore on my 110"Evo. That engine KILLS my 110TC! But that bike is also very LOUD!!! ;)

What's the definition of "performed best"? Are you referring to dyno #s, rideability, level of noise or all of these. It would be great if you had dyno graphs for each baffles with everything else being equal.

What is a "Quiet Big Bore" baffle? For my '10 FC, D&D offered 3 baffle choices: Quiet, Standard and Big Bore.

Think I will first try insulating my d&d performance baffle as I've heard that will quiet it down some and should not lose any performance.  Should probably complete that next week and I'll post my best guessimate as to the noise reduction.

If you have the FC Big Bore now, insulating it won't quiet it down very much at all. That's what the Quiet Big Bore is. But nothing performs like that muffler on these big motors either! Nuthin for nuthin man!

The dyno numbers, not the curves. So rideability got better as the performance did because the numbers went up. I already had an engine design to keep my curve much flatter than stock. Those cams pulled like a mutha to redline, but didn't kick in til over 3 grand. But the bike ran stronger and stronger with each muffler change, and retune each time of course at the same time.

I guess D&D dropped the Quiet Big Bore. That's a "wrapped" Big Bore. The Quiet is a wrapped Standard. The QBB was offered when I bought mine. Like I said, that's on my TC I'm talking about here. I have the regular Big Bore on my 110 Evo. But that's got a big ass cam and is much louder, but not an apples-to-apples comparison. When I tried the Big Bore (unwrapped) on my TC, it WAS louder than the QBB, but not a whole lot. Sounds like you have to make your own Quiet Big Bore now if you want a lil quieter Performance muffler. But don't expect miracles on  how quiet it'll get. Still too loud for most. Not me though! Most here have gone with the Quiet muffler. ;)
