Oil control question
« on: January 02, 2006, 05:13:07 PM »

I'll be having my Head Quarters cams (gear drive of course) installed next month and plan to use the Baisley oil control spring. My question is should I be using the S&S reed valve also or save the $100 for something else.

Yeah, 'er 'uh, Big Time,
What are the rest of your Mods?  I personally think the S&S reed valve is a plus in any Modified set-up.  Later--HUBBARD

My mods are mild and are as follows... SE Roller rockers, SE lifters, SE forged flat tops, .030 Cometics, and exhaust/air cleaner. I'm using the HQ0039 cams for hopefully some nice useable torque.

Yeah, 'er 'uh, Big Time,
If yours was mine, I would definitely install the S&S reed valve.  Be the best HD (Hunard Dollar) you spent in that uprate!  Later--HUBBARD

It's the S&S crankcase breather valve. In very short terms, It eliminates oil carry over(oil out the breather)during sustained higher rpm's. Plus provides a slight increase in mid-range. I'm going with this in my new 113 build. A smart thing to do when the cams are out.

Big Time,

I used the S&S Reed Valve in my modidifed SE 103" build and it works as it is supposed to, no blow back etc.

I doubt that you have added the Feuling Oil Pump as you did not mention.

Only reason I bring this up is, if any one is going to use the Feuling Oil Pump, what ever you do do not use together with the S&S Reed Valve as they do not "play well together". I think in the S&S instruction it says not to use together.

Yeah, 'er 'uh, Grover,
Thank you, my Good man!  I stand corrected.  The sad thing is, I rememberd Tilley telling me that when I read your post.  Later--HUBBARD

Yeah, 'er 'uh, Grover,
I musta' been thinkin' about the Oil Pump.  Anyway, My Ol' Pappy always told me the day would come when I would see that I was wrong.  That was 1972.  It took awhile, but I guess today was the day!  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] Later--HUBBARD

So it's something that in some way enhances the less then perfect scavenging and venting in the stock system?  Ok, approximately a hundred bucks seems like short money to do a better job there if one isn't inclined to swap oil pumps.  Thanks!
