V&H Dresser Duals Installation/Question
« on: January 03, 2006, 12:20:12 PM »

Well, got to install the Vance & Hines Dresser Duals yesteday, along with the full chrome oil vent tube and floorboard extenders. Unfortunately, it was pouring rain all day, so didn't get a chance to ride it.

That close fit is one of the reasons that I sold my Rineharts and switched to the vance and hines true duals. The rinehart pipe sticks out about 3 inches away from that side cover and I just didn't like the way it looked. [smiley=2vrolijk_09.gif]

Yeah, Mobe, these things really do look great on the bike.  Just wanted to make sure I had them mounted up right.  I've never owned Rineharts, but if these V&H's perform well, I can't see going any other way for a true dual set up.

Jeff -

Same setup on my  ride with the Dresser Duals. They do look great. Strange thing is haven't even tried to pul the left cover - been too busy under the right cover and under the fairing.

Don't know if I missed it, which mufflers did you use? I ised the Oval slip-ons. I know they don't flow as much as the Rhineharts, but was wondering if anyone had considered some "baffle modification"....

Jim, I'm running Samson Rolled Thunder upward slants.  They were somewhat loud before I put the true duals on, and now they're a bit louder--not sure if the whole setup is going to be too loud now.  They sure look good on the bike.

It's hard to beat the look of true duals, plus the added benefit of less heat on the right leg, but they do increase the noise factor as well as change the tone of the mufflers. When I got my first set of duals, I had three sets of mufflers on the shelf. So I went back and tried all three and was amazed at the difference the dual head pipes made. Always bothered me that the left stock side was such a waste. Left muffler barely gets hot. With all the benefits of the duals, I can live with some small power loss. FYI, I just ordered a set of V&H dresser duals from www.mandmcycles for $269 delivered. They also have a %25 off sale on Kuryakyn till Jan 15.

I'm running the supertrapp IDS mufflers with 15 discs per side on mine.  It has a real mellow tone, kind of like a big block chevy. Very quiet at cruise but speak right up when I hammer it. As an added benefit I can use the stock end caps. If these mufflers ever discolor the stock heat shields will also fit.

Thanks both GC and Mobe.  I'm looking forward to riding this weekend to see if I can live with sound or not.  Supertrapp is an interesting alternative--I'll check it out online.
