07' CVO 110 DYNA BUILD
« on: December 11, 2009, 09:47:45 PM »

I am getting ready to take my 07' FXDSE in for head gasket recall and figured I would get some mods done while it is in. I am considering a Woods tw408-6 cam or Woods tw9b-6 cam along with headwork and se50mm throttlebody instead of stock 46mm. Also Woods springs and Torrington bearing and dyno tune. Current mods are VH Big Radius 2/2 pipes, Zippers A/C element, and Super Sert. I wanted to ask if the the throttle body upgrade is needed and which cam is recommended by the experts on this site. Bob Wood recommended the tw408-6 cam and also possibly changing the trans pulley and or rear pulley to change the final drive from 2.79 to 3.15 ? On the other hand the builder at my dealer recommends the tw9-b6 cam as he has had great results with that cam in the 110 and he will be doing the headwork as well. I don't know alot about gearing ratio changes and is this necessary? I mainly do shorter rides (barhopper style) and still want a reliable ride. I wonder if both of these cam choices are too much since torque and 5500-6000 rpm max is what I am looking for? I know my pipe choice is probably not the best for torque or power but I love the look and sound and don't plan on changing it now. I have 4200 miles on the bike now. Any and all comments and advice are appreciated. Thanks, Dave :nixweiss:

This has been covered in many threads, but it depends on what you are tying to achieve.

The bottom end is the weak point in the 110, so it is hard to contain costs without addressing the elephant in the room.

new/better crank, balanced trued, maybe plugged and welded (Dark Horsed).

Then maybe the added HP and TQ will not scissor the crank or grind the oil pump into shavings.

Just remember when you get on this train, it is hard to get off until it arrives.

And the biggest challenge will be keeping the train on the tracks....

I appreciate the advice and would also like to here from anyone else with input like Deweysheads, and Hoist and any of the other experts on this site. I would like to know about going from the 46mm stock throttle body to the SE50mm or larger if it is recommended, also thoughts on my cam choices for the Dyna, and whether or not they are too much for reliability issues and if so other recommendations on cams. Also, is final drive gearing really worth messing with? I really did not want to get into the bottom end of the motor, but is the 110 really experiencing that many crank and oil pump issues with top end mods? I like the way the bike runs now at 94hp and 111 tq. but from reading this site most say cams and headwork will really wake up this motor. I would rather be a little conservative with the top end mods and cam choices than always being worried about motor reliability. I really would like to get some miles out of this bike, which raises 1 more question? How reliable and how many miles are you guys getting out of your 110 builds without bottom end work? :confused5:

First you need to have the crank runout measured.

no use in putting top end upgrades with a runout over 5 if reliability is a disired result.
