Would like to install a "Harley" 17inch front wheel on my 08. Problem is P&A catalog says 17inch rims only fit 09 and up. Any idea why they wont fit? Was there an axle change?

I honestly can't think of what it would be. Nust have something to do with the factory get-up.
I put an aftermarket 18" wheel on my '08 FLHX.

It may be that there isn’t an appropriate matching rear tire available in a MU x 16” size.

I was just about to mention that the difference was the '09 introduction of the new D407 tires, and that is probably the reason H-D doesn't recommend changing the rim. They specifically mentioned in the info put out at 2009 introduction that the tire change was not retrofittable (see attachment). The change to different diameter rims leaves very few valid choices for tires btw, so before changing rims a wise person would thoroughly research the tire situation first.
