SE 259e Cams and other stuff
« on: December 17, 2009, 09:00:21 PM »

The order is IN. For a 2010 SEUC with dealer installed VH power duals and SE 259e cams with Kerker (short Mikuni) slip-ons, SERT and the needed air intake mods. Yes, to those who have followed my posts, I am rushing things but favorable financial matters have made it possible  :). Some of this and the dealer recommendations (a dealer I have 100+% faith in) are uncharted territory for me. I will post results, dyno's (after break-in) and any other helpful information as it develops. By chance, does any member have experiences with a similar set-up? Thanks to all you guys and to this site for all the help you have been in my brief membership; you're awesome. Ed

Good luck Ed. It's an exciting time. I was there back in Aug. when I got my new 2010 SEUC. Are you sticking with the stock heads?

Congrats on the new bike, and the opportunity with extra cash flow for the mods.
the 259 grind is very similar to the SE251, that said....for that cam to perform at its best, you need to bump the compression ratio. for a "bolt" in cam on the 110 there are other choices that will optimize performance and driveabilty. Andrews 54H is a great choice also installing a set of cometic .030 head gaskets while they're in there. The 251 and 259 cams torque curves come in way late vs. other company grinds for the 110. depending on riding style the 255 that comes in the 110 is good low torque cam but she's all out at 4k rpm. Choices, choices... make sure all the componets you choose are in concert with one another so that you have a strong, reliable machine that you can enjoy  :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks MrD, I appreciate your advice; that's why I am here. I am going to run the Andrews by the dealer one more time; they were discussed. I did inquire about the Cometic head gaskets. Dealer seem to feel their lifetime is not as good as the gaskets that Harley has gone to after experiencing some problems with previous head gaskets. Since it will be in fact a touring bike and some high mileage trips are planned I am trying to be careful to not scrifice any reliability for small performance upgrades. I have had a long and very positive experience with this dealer and greatly value their advice which has always been spot on and in my best interest. Thanks again. Ed

I did the 259e and did not bump up compression. The butt dyno tells me it's coming in strong every bit as low in rpm as the stock 255s did.  It is running much cooler too. Overall, I am very pleased with the 259e.

with the stock 9.1 compression, u'd be better of with a cam like the SE204 with a 34 intake close, or an HQ500 with a 36IC...

Thanks, I was over talking to them today and am sticking with the 259e's. I have great trust in these guys (dealer) I am working with. Thanks again guys, awesome site and I really like it here.

Can you post the dyno graph from the tuning?

The 2nd I believe is pre cam adjust.
