Saddlebag extension question
« on: December 19, 2009, 07:50:17 PM »

Ok, I have a question or maybe I just want some opinions from all of you.  I have wanted the rear of my bike to have the look of the 09 CVO Road Glide.  I had kind of given up on that for awhile because of the extensive modifications that it was going to take.  I was looking on the HD web site and they now offer the actual extensions for the saddlebags.  My question is what do you all think it would look like with just the extensions on the rear of the Ultra's without having the fender extend down as well.  Have any of already done this or used these and if so can you include some pics.  I have included the link to the extensions in the Harley web site.

Thanks!!

IMO I think the bag extension w/o something done to the fender would look out of place. :nixweiss: Second if I was going to do the bag extensions I'd probably go some other way then what the MoCo offers. I don't care for the seam that is visible on the SERG saddlebags and there are plenty of aftermarket options that will not have that.

Thanks for the reply.  When I checked with the aftermarket stuff it looked it required drilling the fender to place a cover over the original fender.  I'm not sure I want to do that yet.  Any opinions on that?

If I were to go that route I would look for a damaged fender on eBay or someplace like that and remove my stock fender. That way I could save the OEM fender if I ever wanted to go back and use the second fender to modify.

I did it, and would have to agree, don't get me wrong I like how it came out. I spoke with (MAT) in Ca. he is doing his bags also; but he is going with the extended bags not the extension kit. The problem we have is that pinstrip work. That's bucks , but when it's done that's it. It's snowing here in NY so I'm done until spring, she's up on the lift and coming apart. I'm doing Dakota gages, I don't know I'll pass the changing of the bags by the boss. Dame; since it will be the lower part of the bags I can get it done and still ride. So made mid next year, it will get done. You have to match the fender also.

I had seen the picture of your bike before and loved it.  It's exactly what I want to do.  I have the quick detach kit for the tour pack.  The main thing I want is for it to operate as normal so I can use the tour pac when the better is with me and be off the bike when I ride alone.  I also don't to chop the bike up to do this.  That's what's been holding me up on this up to now.

Anytime I have done the bag extensions I also did the wide fender.  Never installed with a seam, molded extensions look better in my opinion for what its worth.
