Exhaust
« on: December 21, 2009, 06:21:41 AM »

Has any one done any resarch on new Vance and Hines pipes on a 2010 Ultra yet? Do you like Tru Duals or slip ons working fine?  I would like to get rid of the Cat converter and give it a little deeper sound.

Well, I haven't done any research on Vance and Hines pipes for an Ultra, but I did put the Power Duals on my 2010 SESG with the Vance and Hines Basic Slippons.  When I changed over from the the stock headersw/CAT and the basic slippons, there was a slight increase in loudness, but a definite change in tone.  The bike has a nice rumble to it now.

I also added the Vance and Hines Power Duals head pipes. Just the pipes without the Cat deepens the exhaust tone. The power duals also increase flow to the left pipe as the crossover diameter is larger than stock.

Then I used Boom Cans to fit my saddlebag cutouts. On the Ultra I would suggest you get the Power duals first with your stock pipes and see how you like the tone.

Then choose the slip ons you like best?

I've decided to go with the V&H Power Duals as well, but yesterday I converted by stock mufflers with 2" fullsac baffles.  If you want to listen to the guys at fullsac, they say the stock headpipes flow better than the V&H Power Duals, once the cat is removed.  Decisions, Decisions, decisions.....

Good luck

Wouldn't be easier without soooo many options. I really gave the Fullsac treatment on the CAT serious thought!!

Less expensive and as I'm snowed in and cannot ride time was no issue. Ultimately decided on the Power Duals to be able to keep the stock system intact for a potential warranty issue down the road?

With the earlier 110 issues in the past just trying to be prepared for a potential issue down the road. Hoping not to need it!

Not surprising they said that, as they're pretty much the only ones that do a really decent job on CAT removals, and it's a business for them.  They're about the only ones that are saying that the stock headers are better, without the CAT, than aftermarket pipes. I'm just sayin..... :nixweiss:

Exactly!
Everyone's product is better than the rest, and they can "prove" it by their dyno test, etc.
When you talk of 1-2HP difference, can you really tell???
Use the product you like best for your goals, including that all important "customer service" after the sale.
MHO, of course!

Has anyone completed a Dyno (or rideabilty) comparison of the stock header with CAT removed versus another header?  Curious as I plan what to do with my setup...

I have been dynoing, cutting, welding and test riding different versions of this header for over 8 months.
The production version is ceramic coated, Tig welded and stepped with a 15 deg hand built merged collector.
Dyno testing shows 3-4 HP more than a modified stock non cat headpipe. Throttle responce is crisp
and the exhaust note is noticably cleaner. Retail price is 479.00.

Is it better than a stock modified header? Everyone is going to have a different perception of what a good value is.

I have purchased one of Fullsac Performance new headpipes for my 2010 SE Streetglide 110" and am awaiting shipment now. Along with the TTS Mastertune & software from Fullsac. Steve George at Fullsac is awesome to deal with & very informative. He also offers the CVO Forum members here a discount on parts supplied by them. Can't wait to receive and install this newly designed & built headpipe, to compliment the 2" Fullsac baffles that I already have installed in my factory 4" mufflers. Will keep you posted as to how this combo sounds & performs!

I too am patiently(trying to be) waiting for my new Fullsac headpipe to arrive. Seemed like the right choice for me so I can keep my stock pipe--just in case--and it also appears stock to anyone that takes a fast look at it.

just a thought. we put a 2009 v&h powershot on a 2010 s.e. streetglide. He wanted a powercommander and tune and the 2010 headpipe has the smaller o2's. the 09 header worked great for tuning
