I've have HEARD from a few builders, that you can't get better bolts to hold touque torque then than stock, not to create to prevent oil leaks.

Better? ::) ;D ;)

Educate me please. I have always thought the thread locker held the fastener. My other hobby is gunsmithing and I have a fairly extensive gun collection. I use the blue Lock-Tite (which I also use on my bikes) and have never experienced screw loosening in any of my guns (or bikes and the FatBoy has 90% stainless replacements). May be a poor example but can someone shed a little light here. Thanks, Ed

I don't think it's a poor example at all.  I use the "blue stuff" on just about all the critical fasteners on the bike and I can't remember when one vibrated loose...

I think the only case you might be able to make (as weak as it may be) that Grade 8 hardware is stronger than SS hardware.
But the rub is you are not connecting it to carbon steel anyway.

most connections in white metal do not allow the strength that grade 8 hardware could might afford you.

I do not know the grade of stock hardware but SS has almost the same as Grade 5, again the weak point is not the hardware but the case or attachment.

And yes Howie I was busting Balls on that post, I usually overlook a lot, but could not help myself.

Some can bust me later......

the real deal is the threads....

there are cut threads - and rolled threads and a whole range in between.....

the closer threads are to rolled threads the better they hold - regardless of what they are made from - so far i have not seen any stainless rolled threads but only stainless cut threads... these may be rolled stainless threads - if not the rolled thread will hold better than the cut thread all else being equal and the rolled thread will obtain a truer torque as well since it has less turning resistance - note that a cut thread can show a high tourge and still not be tight enough due to sliding friction of the thread itself.

harley A engines vibrate a LOT all the parts on the engine need to be treated like in the 70's..

any bolts ive ever had trouble with staying tight and holding ive gone to cat bolts - all rolled - grade 8 - very smooth nice threads, very good holding and good vibration resistance. in fact whenever i have engine bolts to replace on most anything i use cat bolts - just cant go wrong.

12 point ARP Polished SS for just about everything on Cybil! So far I've resisted and left Joy alone! ;)

I got some Harley covers for the FB and they had these little prong things inside. You could just look at em and they'd pop off. That's when I wnt to the polished stainless bolts. I have used the Hot Toppers for my Springer with good success.
