FXR4 Voltage Regulator
« on: December 24, 2009, 05:31:35 PM »

Hi,
Does any one know the part number of the stock voltage regulator used on a FXR4 ?
My speedometer gave me a d085Ee code for speedometer overvoltage. Does anyone know what the amperage of the alternator is? 22/32/38 amps ????
Thanks,

The P/N for the FXR3 VR is 74537-93A. Should be the same for the 4. I believe it's a 32A system.

Thanks Hoist,
For the part number.I checked every wire from point a to b. I did not find any pinched wires or corroded connectors. The ground wires were also good. The only thing pointing to an error was the speedometer (electronic) code of an overvoltage. At this point I am putting the bike back together and will connect a voltmeter to the battery while riding to see if I get an overvoltage and a  horn/speedo/tach/ignition problem at the same time. Taking the bike apart was real treat, discovered all kinds of antipollution stuff, that i did not know it had.
Thanks,

Another check is to disconnect the VR and hook a 120V light bulb up to the alternator, with a bulb socket and 2 leads off of it. Touch the leads to the alternator connections at the plug in the cases. If the bulb glows bright, chances are the regulator's bad. If the bulb doesn't light up bright or at all, the alternator's bad. Just an over-simplistic rudimentary way to determine which one of those 2 are bad. Of course if you think you have a short or bad connection, you must find that on your own. Good luck and Happy Holidays! :2vrolijk_21:

where did you see that code on your speedo on the FXR4  ?

the only thing that I see on the speedo on my 4 is the milage, trip meter and an analog speed dial.  I don't see anyplace for the bike to display a message like that .... Thanks !!!

Also, where did you find the information on how to interpret the message ?

Hi Mickey,
Press and hold the button on the side of the of the speedo while turning the ignition on. There are 10 codes available, is no problems the last will be a CLr for the number 1-10. The last code will be the speedo cal number. The FXR4 supliment has this info and tells you what each code means. This is for the electronic speedometer. It is read in same place as the milage/trip readout.Pressing the button for more than five seconds will clear all codes even if you have not read them yet.

4's Must be the only FXR's with a digital speedo. The 3 still has a mechanical one.

Well,
I put all the wires back together, gas tank back on. There was not any pinched wires or corrosion. I cleaned them anyway, also the alternator plug that had some oil. Installed a voltmeter on the handlebar clamp so I can see when it goes crazy and double check the speedo codes again. I rode it for 100 miles today, no problems yet.
Keep you posted.
