Zumo Micro SD card question
« on: December 25, 2009, 09:50:26 AM »

Got my Road Tech Zumo 660 the other day and want to start loading MP3's. I see Micro SD cards which go up to about 2GB, then I see Micro SDHC cards which go much larger. With the 660 read those also??

SD vs SDHC memory cards
Secure Digital (SD) Cards have been in the market for around 10 years, Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) Cards are the advanced version made for the need of higher capacities as well as faster data transfer rate in digital cameras and other such devices. SDHC cards are designed for devices that are compatible with the SD 2.00 specification. Products designed exclusively to support previous SD specifications 1.0 and 1.1 will not be able to fully utilize SDHC cards. To check whether your device is SDHC compatible, look in your device manual or on the packaging/box for the SDHC symbol.

The Zumo 550's are compatible w/SDHC cards so I would see no reason why the Zumo 660 isn't. :nixweiss: Also would add that unlike the Zumo 550 the Zumo 660 is not limited to only being able to read 1000 songs (files) on a card.

Thanks d00d--I just wish it had that little SDHC symbol as mentioned. I will give it a try and hope for the best :2vrolijk_21:

I just checked Garmin website and they are not showing it under the specs for either the 550 or 660, but I've got it (SDHC) in my 550. :2vrolijk_21:

I saw that also, and figured since you said you had it in the 550 I gave it a shot and just ordered one. Just another example of poor product info on the website.

To stop slow GPS startup time put your MP3 files in folders on the memory card. The size of the card you need will depending on how many MP3 files you want to load onto it. I have a 2 geg card with about 376 songs and I have plenty of space available for more. Really how many songs do you want to listen to.

Have fun with the new toy it will do lots more then just give you turn directions.

I'm using an 8 GB microSDHC card in my 660 with no problems. I've heard of people using 16 GB cards and probably the 32 GB card will work too, if/when they're available.
