I-70 West out of Denver to Green River Utah     Anyone care to share some information about this stretch of highway, scenic or not, high passes, etc....I've always ended up going on I-25 to Santa Fe  then west on I-40 to 93 to  I-15 (Love I-15) and then back up to Seattle via I-84 to I-90,  but want to try something different this summer.................   (pictures??)

Traveled that road in the car twice in the last 4 years, very scenic for a "big road", in fact the wife and i plan on doing it on the bike in 2010.

Very scenic going up and over the continental divide and then down and through the western slope, very nice ride for a interstate highway.   :2vrolijk_21:

Typical Interstate riding.  Be prepared for some cold air going over the passes though.  I've hit snow on the passes in late June before.  Also recommend the Best Western Riverside Terrace (435-564-3401) if you spend the night there; helluva nice place and great breakfast.

It is indeed a pretty area, but keep in mind, it is interstate.   Also, its a 75mph area so traffic is moving very fast for looking around and taking in the sites.    I live 50 miles south of Copper Mountain Ski Resort which is on I-70.

At Santa Fe, you should take Hwy 285 North toward Alamosa, Co.  At Alamosa simply go thru town to CO-17, which will turn back into Hwy 285.  Then take Hwy 285 / Hwy 24 North thru Buena Vista, then onto Leadville, Co. then North to I-70.   Much, much, much nicer ride.   That would take you right thru Buena Vista where I live.   :)

Stay on your toes leaving Denver on I70, lots of looky Lou's as you go into the mountains. They don't always stay in their lane, I've had a few close calls, on I70. It's mostly your typical highway driving, a few scenic spots, probably the nicest spot in my opinion is near Grand Junction. I80 out of Laramie is a nice ride, less traffic, you'll end up in Salt Lake.

I have no pictures, but the scenery is exceptional for a "highway" ride. I did get into a snow storm going to vegas a few years ago near the Eisenhower tunnel. That was not a fun ride going down the pass on two wheels. The fenders on the bike were packed with snow and slush. The wife did not get warm till we got into Nevada. That was the second week of June!!!!!    30 degrees at 4:00 A.M. on the pass and 99 degrees in vegas later that day.

If you map a route out using Google map, in many areas you can go to street view and actually see pictures of what the area looks like.

Back in Sept. 2004 my wife and I were riding out to San Fran from Ontario to meet our son who was attending college in Victoria, BC.  Actually it was a good excuse to have a break-in ride on my new '05 SEEG and it was a break-in ride for my wife riding an Ultra for the first time.

We had planned to take backroads most of the way to enjoy the countryside and for sure we wanted to include riding Route 50 (Loneliest Road in America).  When we stopped for lunch just east of Denver a local suggested to us to take I-70 saying that we would thoroughly enjoy the "prettiest interstate in the country".

What a great suggestion, and we'll never forget that part of an amazing journey.  Hope to get back that way someday soon.

Enjoy your trip!

Take care & ride safe,
Grizzly

This is going west to east but here are a few pictures from 2008. I rode down US-6 out of Salt Lake to I-70 and then took US-24.
