Bushtec Hitch Problem
« on: December 28, 2009, 07:51:34 PM »

I just installed the Bushtec hitch on my 2010 seuc and I have been unable to center the receiver 100% on the rear tire. The flat part of the main body of the hitch is level, but the receiver itself appears to have been welded on at a slight angle, making it impossible to center and/or level the hitch. Has anyone experienced this? The last hitch that I installed was a hitch doc and had no problems.

I figured if someone had one of these, they would know what I was talking about without the pics

Mine looks the same way I'm afraid to say.  If I put my receiver in and snug the bolt, the receiver pin looks straight.

But without the receiver installed, the square receiver that hangs down, looks as if it is tweaked a little to one side.

I have not towed my trailer yet to see how it pulls.  I have loosened all the bolts twice and pulled over to try to center but still turned out the same.

I did a post about a month ago with pictures in the SEUltra section.  It will show what we are talking about.

I don't know if the square tube is not welded on straight or what.  My 05 was a lot better thought out hitch.

If you call Bushtec, please let me know.

So that IS a hitch from Bushtec?
I've been pulling one for over 20 years, the ONLY hitch I have had fit 100% and looks way better than any other is from the Hitch Dr.  Now it's the only one I'll ever install, which I need to get one soon.  I have one from my 07 I'll sell for anyone who needs it.......

Here you go.

It looks like you got a hitch for a bagger with the rear bumper instead of what you need for YOUR bike??
You are right, looks kinda strange.
Give 'em a call.

Bushtec makes 3 hitches for the 09-10 Touring bikes.  Version 1  bike with a bumper,  Version 2 (shown) CVO Ultra and bikes without bumper, and Version 3 for FLHX's, SEFLHX's and SERG's..

All 3 versions unfortunately hang down where visible.  They now use a pickup truck size dogbone locking pin to lock the hitch receiver to the removeable hitch (ball or pin).

I agree, looks as though it is welded off center, have you measured it to see if that is the case?

Usually Bushtec is a first class item, may have been made after the sale of the company.

Jamie at Bushtec stepped up and sent me another center piece of their hitch and a return shipping label for my old one.  The one she sent me looked the same as the old one when matching them up on the bench.  Installed the replacement and was still off center.

When I spoke with Jamie on the phone, she said something to the effect that all HD's don't seem the same at the rear.  In remembering that response, I put 3 flat washers on the belt side thru bolt that goes thru the saddlebag/muffler/rear fender support and their center bracket.

That pulled the center hitch around enough to have the downtube centered in the center of the tire.

Will post a picture the 1st time the bike is out.   Looks good in the garage though-much better than it was.

Just got my new Bushtec Hitch for my SEUC and I am very disappointed. It looks like a 3rd grader cut the center piece out. It doesn't match from one side to other and just from holding it up on the back of the bike, one side is hidden and the other side sticks out from the fender.

I'm going to mount it on the bike this weekend to double check fit and finish.

You pay $400 for a hitch and it looks like someone made it in there back garage. The one I had on my 05 Road King was a much better quality hitch.

This baby might be going back!!!   :nixweiss:

Sounds like a problem with QC.
Hopefully they can get it sorted out quickly, it'd be a shame to lose customer support for a good product!

I've been emailing a few times  with the folks at Hitch Doc and they are not making one for the 10CVO, could not really get a straight answer if they plan to or not...... just said the IF they do, do I want them to let me know................  thats chit in my book.  So I'm thinking either American Legend or....?
I don't want the "doubts" in my mind with dealing with a bushtec hitch since y'all had issues, and the photos did make it look second rate.

Look up "MCHITCH"
See if they have anything that will work for you.
I talked to them last summer, and they were way more than helpful.
