95 kit with a Mikuni 45 Carburetor
« on: December 30, 2009, 05:44:52 PM »

Hello, Last year I had a 95 kit installed on my 2001 Roadking. Head work was performed at the time along with the installation of a Andrews 26 Cam. The exhaust is a true duel Bub with Vance and Hines slip ons. The bike runs good. However after buying a 07 FXSTSSE I want a little more power. I just got a Mikuni 45 Carburetor to install. I want to get a good Breather that will help perform. What would you use ? I am torn between the H.D Big Breather, Big Sucker, and the New Super Gas by Performance Machine. Also are there any thing that I might be missing on my Engine set up ? I have found this Forum very educational as far as peoples inputs. Thanks I look forward to hearing your input.

I used the combination of the Mikuni 45 carburator and the Ness Big Sucker with a Thunderheader exhaust on a previous softail bike with great results.... :2vrolijk_21:

I would suggest that a 42, would offer better torque delivery for the touring build. :)

A 45 Mikuni will give you more top end, but you may lose a bit of low end torque.  Any of those air cleaners would be adequate. You need to talk to your builder/tuner. Piece-mealing is not the answer.  Air in....air out. It is all important as a complete package.

Nancy's Lowrider was a complete Tman package.
95", 42 Mikuni, Tman heads and cams and a propipe.
126/121 and she used all of it every chance she got.
Ahhhhhh the good ol days.

Listen to AMP above about the 45 and the right combination.
The right combination is the answer!

Thanks for the input. My builder suggested the 45 over the 42. We talked about a HD Big Breather or Whimmer set up. Something that will give it plenty air to breath.

My other bike has a 95" kit. My Dyno numbers were 98HP and 101 ft-lbs of Torque.  :jalapeno:   Among other parts, I used the SE 44mm CV carb and a "Zippers" high flow air filter.

Even the OEM carb is absolutely fine, for what you want to do.

Update: I picked up my Bike this weekend. I rode it all weekend. I Love the Torque and Power. The Mikuni 45 and SE Big Breather set up was a great match with the Cam, Piston, and Head Work setup. Third gear is really mean. The stock carburetor and K&N Filter was nice but NO Match to what it runs like now.

I just purchased a Screaming Eagle Coil and Ignition Module. Will I be able to tell the difference in the performance when I install these Parts????????? I have been told that it will make a big difference. What actual difference will this accomplish???

it depends on how far off the ignition settings are now vs. how close they are now with the new module...if the new module is adjustable, you'll gain a good bit by having it dyno tuned for fuel and ignition
