cvo Ultra vs cvo Street Glide
« on: January 02, 2010, 03:10:51 PM »

Happy New Year to all. I would like to seek opinions about a situation and  as a newbie don’t want to sound like I am airing dirty laundry but I have great respect for you guys and value your opinions. I just got the news from my dealer (who I have an exceptionally good relationship with for many years) that they can’t find a cvo Ultra in amber/citrus after days of looking. However, they can secure a cvo Street Glide (March/April delivery) in spiced rum which is another bike I love; I’d be happy with either. They are different bikes, however, and getting keyed up for one and then switching is a mental turmoil. I have located a dealer about 2 hours away who can get the Ultra right away. I have a trailer and money in hand and so could simply go buy and pick up the bike whenever. That would mean bringing it back to my local for the engine work and future service. Even though I think they’d understand and accept this, it makes me feel a little awkward. I have a condo near Daytona and go every year but the March/April delivery for the SG would mean not having it for Daytona and I don’t know how many Daytonas I’ve got left in me. Any thoughts? Thanks fellas. :2vrolijk_21:

Couple of things I'd think about:
Why did you pick the Amber SECU over the SESG in the 1st place?
Why did you go looking for the SECU after the SESG was given to you as an option?
Which one just calls out to you?

Sounds like you really want the SECU so why settle? JMO!

Good luck either way and enjoy.

Agree totally with the above and most importantly what is in red. Ask yourself how are you going to feel... what are you going to think everytime you see the Amber SEUC in the future. If there is any part of your thinking that's going to say "I could've (should have) gotten that bike" now is the time to get it.

Is the reason your dealer can't locate one is he has nothing to trade (what the other dealer wants) only a thought. I would approach your dealer and present your deal and see how they react. I purchased a 09 CVO Roadglide from another dealer and my dealer maintains it. Thet told me they could not have gotten me one. You may be surprised at there response. It may also be bad. I think you are leaning towards Amber don't just settle for the Spiced Rum.

Brad's got that one right. My dealer could not get my 08 SERK in the colors I wanted. No one would trade with him. He told me he would love to continue to service my bikes regardless of where I bought it. He even gave me 20% off for 60 days which is a package he offers when you buy a new bike from him.

If you walked into a parking lot where both bikes are parked, which one do you stare at 1st?

If you wanted the Ultra first then get it! If your dealer can't make a trade then take the drive to go get the bike yourself. You shouldn't have regrets about your bike once you have it. Follow your heart and you won't feel bad later...

Same thing happened to me when I purchased my '04 SEEG... Local dealer I had bought bike from previously couldn't promise me a bike but only put me on a (wait/wish) list since his allotment was spoken for. I flat out asked him would there be any hard feelings if I found/purchased the bike from somewhere else and his reply was if you can find it jump on it... these bikes are in high demand. I've since had my bike serviced and any/all warranty work done at that dealership and get treated as if I had purchased the bike from that dealership.

Note: I'll also add that the day after I got VIN and arranged financing my local dealer called and said someone had turned down a :pumpkin: and did I want it. I told them that I had just secured financing and didn't want to go back to credit union and redo the paperwork... and there were still no hard feelings. :2vrolijk_21:

The fact you looked for an ultra after getting a sure thing on the SG tells me you want the SG as a second bike, but the ultra is what you really  really want.

if it makes you feel better, get the ultra, we will not be critical :D

the 2 hours is a drag, but make it an adventure with the kids or the wife :D

cheers

Get the bike you really want from whoever has it. Let your dealer service it. If he has tried to get you the bike you want and can't, he has no right to be upset when you purchase it elsewhere. JMHO

Thanks a million. Ed

I am pretty sure that several members here have bought the extended warranty from Jenni at Tri County Harley in Ohio at 20% off so I don't believe it matters who you purchase the extended warranty from.

Yes they can, or you can get it from any other dealer (one of those offering a discount). I purchased mine from a dealer that didn't sell me my bike.

I am not sure if Brad was saying this, but.......

I know my dealership would contact the dealership were you found the Ultra and try and get that on his floor, some dealerships trade with other dealerships to accommodate customers and demand.

If this doesn't work, I seriously doubt your dealership would be offended with you buying from someone else if they knew the circumstances.

And for what it's worth.....sounds to me like you want the Ultra. If it truly doesn't matter either bike is a good choice.
