As has been said beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  For me for a while now I have been into the blakced out bikes.  Some of you may recall I built a pretty cool blacked out Night Train a while back.  To me chrome is passe and black is the new hot thing.  But hey if you like chrome great, whatever floats your boat.

I decided to pull trigger on this new blacked out bike, basically secured my spot for it as soon as I heard about it from my dealer while he was at the meeting.  I have been hoping moco would do a blacked out RG but again they leave me at the alter.

On the issue of cost, believe it or not, the cost of this bike is not too much more than the ticket was on my current yellow bike back in September 2005.  It costs alot to build one of these bikes out of the parts catalog even when you start at msrp for the base bike (msrp with no mark ups etc.).  Way I see it I will be money ahead by going this route when it comes time to sell or trade again for the then "next best thing".  In contrast I expect I will get my head handed to me on the hit I take on my yellow bike but such is life.

In terms of when the bike may be available for delivery, my dealer tells me that he may not see this bike until March.  If sooner than that great but I will not get too uptight if not.

I did take notice that the number on the bike that has been shown in this thread is 150 of 999.  That indicates to me that they have at least 150 built so far.  If that is the case maybe these bikes will start hitting dealers well before March.

Definatley a "Man's" color scheme...

I like that it stands out, but does not jump out!  For me, it's an awesome color match.

Thanks for posting this link. It appears that the bike looks almost black when viewed from a distance, and the flames come out only when looking at it from close by. And with the center console, the trim rings in the fairing and the engine chrome, there is just enough chrome for me ... he he he. Unfortunately the video did not show the front or right side view.

Can someone (Gary ???) confirm the current Harmon Kardon software version? With all of this chatter, I just looked to see what the latest version was on the HD website and it's 8.21.

That's interesting!  I've not updated mine on the current bike at all, because I thought it hadn't changed in a long, long time. (I look periodically to see).  This time, though, I downloaded and opened the file that's there, and in spite of them saying it's 8.21, the file is named (inside the zip) HD_TMS320_8_19_0.upg - i.e. the same 8.19 name that the last version had.  The file is the same size as the last file of that name, but has a file date of 4th September 2009.  The Bootloader in the Zip IS a newer version though - 8.22, where the previous one was also 8.19. A different bootloader will make no difference to the firmware loaded though.

Which leads me to wonder - did they just forget to rename the upg file, and is it 8.19, 8.21, or 8.22.....?   :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

Only one way to find out - back later!   :2vrolijk_21: ;)

Very poor lighting in the video.  You would definately have to see this bike in the daylight...

What does the upgrade entail ?

Download the zip, unzip it to a CD, tune radio to FM, remove any CD, turn ignition off, hold down any two buttons, turn on to Accessory poition, once the DIAG screen appears, let go the buttons, press 5, insert the CD, let it do it's stuff. Simple.
