I've seen this complaint before in this forum and it puzzles me because the grips on my '07 are HOT.  At 38-40 degrees, a setting of 2-3 is almost too warm- and that is thru standard weight H-D winter gloves.  Perhaps the heat was toned down for later model years....?  I've been very pleased with the usefulness of the heated grips on my bike but I admit that I can afford not to ride when it is below high 30s given the relatively few days / hours of the day that occurs down here in LA.

I have had several go bad, my take is that the "rheostat" goes bad. Either it gets too hot or not hot enough, or just burns out. Bottom line if you have one that hasn't burned out.....consider yourself very lucky!!

all im trying to figure out is if they are working correctly or not.   which i feel maybe they are they just dont get that warm when its cold. only use them when its warm out.  Maybe next year they can save money and dont put them on.  Saw posts about other grips that people really like and work.  Just thought these should also

You might try turning the grips on to level 6 with the engine idling in a garage or somewhere sheltered. Let it sit for 10 minutes and then try putting your ungloved hand on the grips. If its Hot to your hands then they're working. If they're just warm to your hands on the highest setting then there's something wrong with the grips. I don't have a service manual but they must have some operating temp they need to meet to be working properly.

The heated grips on my 2006 worked great for about 3 years and then nothing. I put a set on the wife's V-Rod and they worked extremely well until she sold it. I just bought the 2010 and they are not worth the powder to blow them to h*&^%. I do think that was the motor companies way of making them last more than 2 years. >:(

The chrome and rubber grips on my 06 get very hot, I have to turn them to around 3 to 4 when its in the 30's.  I could not imagine trying to use them without gloves.

Flibb, I was out for a midnight ride last night (about 55 degrees) and I had my grips set on number 4 and they seemed too hot with medium weight gloves on. I usually don't ride when it is below 50 degrees, but normally at night I put them on number 3 with medium gloves and they feel just right.
My bike is an 09SEUC Silver. I like to ride at night when the traffic is less. Between the seat, which gets warm enough on the low setting and the grips on 3 or 4 max it feels just right.BYW I live in southern Ca. so it never really gets as cold here as where some of the other guys are riding. For the record there's a dramatic difference in the coldness you feel in your hands once you get into the 30's and 20's combined with highway speeds. I can ride all day on setting 3 or 4 when the temps are above 40. Once it drops below that, the heated grips simply can't provide enough heat to compensate for the cooling effect of 65mph across the grips at freezing temps. I've had heated grips since 2003 (different bikes) and would never want a bike without them but they simply aren't going to provide any hand warmth when riding in really cold temps.

Harley dealer just called They talked to Harley tech support and they said that it is a know problem with the 09 ultras that the grips just dont get warm enough.  Said that 09 were the first year with the fly by wire grips and that seems to be the problem.. Said some people go thru maybe 3 sets before they work.. We turned on a limited ultras handgrips and they got much warmer than mine sitting still.  So they sent him a checklist that they can go over. so ill keep you posted.

From experience my 08 SEUC grips were useless they weren`t used often so not worn out but most times wouldn`t work anyway, they were replaced 3 times under warranty. get more reliable heat from my dick and thats the same  one ive used for years  :pepper:

Is it fly by wire? CAHDBIKER (just a little humor I hope)
