Gel/Pad inserts for the 04 stock seat?
« on: January 09, 2006, 05:23:13 PM »

Has anyone sent their 04 seat off to have a different pad installed or a gel cushion?  I really want to keep the bikes stock seat but after 6-7 hours in the saddle..... I would really like to know of any shops out there that you have done this with and would recommend as top notch seat guys...Do you think corbin would replace my stock foam fo some of their good stuff ?

Thanks
Leroy

Just an update as to my 04 pumpkin...I had it torn down for continued fouling of the front cylinder, the Yellowstone Harley shop in Bozeman MT. did a great job of warranty work and pulled both cylinders completly down honed them both out, changed all the valve seals after checking the guides, an put new ring sets on both cylinders .  The actual problem as to the oil control issue in the front cylinder was glazed cylinder walls.  ...I have not ridden it yet since it is still winter up here so I hope they fixed the problem.

They (HD of Sacramento) did the same thing to mine.  A week or two later I noticed the brownish color all over the cylinders.  They tried to clean it off but said it was baked on.....said it was the oil residue from the re-bore.  Anyway, they ended up putting brand new cylinders on and an agreeable compensation for all the back and forth and down time.  I'm happy!

I've put a few hundred on it since then and no problems to speak of.

I'm happy to learn that you're happy with the outcome on yours.  Good news is good news! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I took my "05 seat (2 of them, put second on my '04 seeg) to Sargents Cycle Products.  They put a "closed cell foam" and remove the "open cell foam" Really makes a difference, I had them replace rider seat and small curve in back and passenger.  Can't speak for passenger, (lonely guy!) but I think its great! Long trips really made difference.  This is the 6th seat I've done in 5 years that I've had them do.  Check out www.SargentCycle.com

A friend just bought the Harley Sundowner for the Street Glide, no report, but from past history I will probably recommed he replace foam also.

Cost about $200,(less if don not do rider back)

I love the fit of my "05 I'm 6' 3 220 lbs.  15" inch seat fits fine

Friend is 6'3"  250 lbs and need the 16" seat.

Went with flynnsautotrim.com had them add one of there gel packs and latex foam. Kept the stock cover and feels great no more sore arss. Was about $75.00 for rider. One of the best thing I have done to bike for riding comfort besides the rear progressive shocks.

What seat did you have them modify, and what was the difference to appearance of the seat when they were done?

About 6 months ago, this same subject ame up. There was a post about a shop in FL that did this type of work. They had several pages on the website regarding how to measure what changes you wanted and the whole bit. Basically they rebuilt the foam under the stock cover.

Try a search for Sundowner and FL, should come up... I took the cheaper (after third seat) and bought the wife a But Buffer at a rally. $60 and she is now fine riding the "day" rides.

Leroy,

I put the pro pad gel in my '04SEEG front and back. It was day/night differance. It is still FIRM but takes away the pressure points on tailbone, I could ride all day without bitching about a sore A$$. I have since put on a tour pack and went with the '05 SEEG seat for better passenger comfort. The '04 seat has a thin layer of hard foam just under the seat cover, this is a big part of the discomfort problem. If you like the style of stock seat. Go with the gel pro pad for value and comfort.

Good luck,

Grover

Coolbreeze, Took a new stock 05 se seat and had them take off cover and remove stock foam and add one of there gel packs and top off with latex foam and put stock cover back on. No one can tell the differance unless you sit on and ride. Night and day from the stock seat. Check out there web site, click on motorcycles and it will tell you what has been done and what the gel pack is. I am not affilated with flynnsautotrim.com just passing along what fine work they do at a great price.
I have seen first hand the damage some of the throw on cheap gel pads will do. Most on all leather seats that I have seen. Seems some of the throw on pads have rubber feet so pad will not slide around. Those rubber pads leave there mark [smiley=oops.gif] on leather.
