I just saw Garth Brooks in Las Vegas over New Years
« on: January 10, 2010, 06:27:23 PM »

Unfortunately, It was on my bucket list to see Garth, just before he retired nine years ago.  I was ecstatic when it was announced Garth would play at the Wynn/Encore in Vegas.  We waited on two phones and two PCs for hours.  We gave up and walked away.  I went back to my office and saw the screen had changed.  Snagged two tickets.  The show was two and a half hours, no exaggeration.  10:30 to 1AM.  Just Garth and guitar nothing else, no Stetson.  Oh, Trisha Yearwood stopped by for a few songs.  Small theatre only 1500 seats.  Very intimate setting, very un Vegas like but great.  After an hour, they turned up the lights and it became all requests.

Don't forget,

"I got friends in low places......"  right here.

That was an opportunity of a lifetime.  I have always wanted to see him.  Never been in the right place at the right time.

I saw the headline while I was out there in November. I've always wanted to see his show and I'm not one for concerts.

I like smaller venues, not football stadiums, etc.  Way too big and too crowded.

Awesome. I saw him when he first came out & he opened for Reba. They had technical difficulty and he came out w/ just an acoustic guitar & played for about an hour. He wasn't too popular then, the Dance had just hit the charts, so he played James Taylor and covers like that. Very Good show, I bet that was over-the-top w/ him by himself. He's also quite the guitar player too.

The theme of the first hour of the show was explaining the influence of others on his music growing up.  He did play James Taylor, Don McClean, Billy Joel George Strait, George Jones, Haggerd, etc.  Garth would play one of theirs and then play one of his that demonstrated the influence.
