The Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division has awarded a $24.7 million contract to Bell & Associates Highway Construction of Brentwood, Tenn., to build the next section of the uncompleted Foothills Parkway.

The contract, funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), is to design and construct the 800 foot-long bridge No. 2 on the eastern end of the unfinished Wears Valley-to-Walland segment of the Foothills Parkway, known as the “missing link,” in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

When completed, bridge No. 2 will be a curving, elevated roadway that will be supported by four up-to-100-feet tall piers. The road will cross two ravines on the south slope of Chilhowee Mountain. It is the longest single bridge needed to complete the missing link. Work on the new bridge is set to start on Friday and is scheduled for completion in November 2011.

I think I got it.
If this is it I never realized it was part of the Foothills PKWY, dead end or not I would have taken the ride!

I see 2 dead ends, is this correct? And it looks like it just ends in Pigeon Forge, is this correct?

Where is this, at one end of the BRPW, or just another area?

Your right guys , its the other end of the Foothills parkway. The southern end runs between 129 just below the Dragon over to 321 into Townsend. The northern portion 2 halfs have been completed for years but closed on both ends although there are local dirt bike trails to it. Senetor Alexander lives just below the Parkway and I suppose he got the National Park a little more money to build the connector bridge and get it finished.
